With the holidays here, I'm stressed! My fiancés family are night owls, and by that I mean they wake up around 2pm and go to bed between 4am-6am. Each year we go out to visit for holidays, we don't get home until 6am or later. I've never really been too bothered by it since it's only two days, but with a baby in the picture, idk how to tell them we need to be home by 8p. Baby girl has her bedtime routine and even if she goes to sleep at their house, I really don't want to stay awake all night, and then be up for the whole following day with baby.
How do I go about explaining this to people who can't change their sleep routine? I don't want to come across as rude, but this momma needs to keep her sanity!

Their routine is insane to me lol must work night shifts. But just like them, you’re also on a strict schedule, for a good reason too. I don’t think you’d come off rude at all if you were direct about it
@Ali Yes exactly! The night shift always blows my mind! Usually when they're going to bed, I'm already up for the day 😆

Night shifts are hard. My mom works nights, but she's never expected us to follow her schedule.
I just wouldn't even say it like there's room for discussion. And i don't think it's rude to just say. Baby needs to go to bed at 8 so we'll be leaving at 7. Okay? Great! You've got to do what's right for your family. And it's not healthy or safe even for you to be awake all night and the next day with a baby. Hopefully they'll just understand it's not about them, babies need their sleep (and so do mamas) 🩵
