As a first time mum, I wonder if there is anything I can do to help my little one settling better for a couple of minutes alone in his cot.
He is 8 months old now, and clearly doesn't like the cot, screaming and shouting when I put him in there for a few minutes with his toys. Every so often he starts playing but as soon as he realises I am not super close, he stands up and shouts. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? My family keeps saying that I spoiled him... because he only settles in our arms.
I want to believe this is kind of normal as he might be anxious if we are not with him but how do you help him in this situation?
Thanks!

First of all you can ever spoil your bubba if you ask me. They’re born wanting connection, comfort and contact. They need you! They’re brain does 80% of their development in the first 1000 days and the brain decides what type of brain it needs to be for the future life. Giving all your love to them is not spoiling them but rather shaping healthy growth. Does he enjoy a certain type of music? Or maybe even putting a shirt of yours in the cot so it smells like mum might help him?. I would keep trying even just small increments per day like 5 minutes at a time. He will come round eventually. He just loves his Mumma 🤍

My daughter has been through many different phases where I couldn’t leave her in a room or even easily put her down and stay in the same room. I’d say it’s completely normal, and not down to anything that you’ve done. He’s becoming more aware that you’re 2 different people and that you can be away from him and understandably that’s scary for him. Xx
Thanks for you answers ❤
