I have a 3 week old and he will only ever sleep if he is being held or if we are co sleeping. We’re okay with it now because co sleeping has allowed me to get 4 to 6 hr stretches in the night, but I am conscious that once he is 6 months, he will be going to nursery 2 days a week as I’ll be back in work then and worried he will struggle to sleep at nursery. Any tips on how to help my baby sleep independently? Does it settle as he gets older?

It will happen! At this stage babies very much like to be close to you so it’s not uncommon. My first was exactly the same, would not settle unless on or close to me and then when I moved him he’d wake up. I can’t entirely tell you when but he did get to a point where he settled on his own in his next to me crib - definitely before 6 months!
I found sleeping bags really helped him go to sleep compared to blankets but that could just be him!

Don't worry about it this early! Just do what works for now.
