My 3 week old falls asleep on my chest perfectly fine but as soon as I transfer him to his crib he starts sturing and ends crying what can I do to help this or stop it
How to get him to go to sleep in his crib rather than on me xx

You might have tried this already but incase it’s helpful, put bum/legs down first to prevent the startle reflex and leave your arms wrapped round him once you’ve lowered him. Leave one hand firmly on his belly while you slowly move the other hand, you can stroke down his forehead in between his eyes too to settle him, or pat him with the hand that’s resting on him until he seems settled. It often took 2 or 3 attempts when my baby was very little, and still does sometimes tbh! Having them in a sleeping bag is easier imo as it’s already warmed so they’re not being put on a cooler surface which could also wake them! Xx

thank you we have tried this lol he end up sleeping g for around half hour or so and then wake back up to be fair it’s not all the time but when it happens it happens 😂 since two o’clock today he’s had about 4 20-30 min naps as he keeps waking

You could also try putting a t-shirt that you’ve worn over the mattress so it smells like you, putting a hot water bottle in the crib to warm the mattress a little before putting baby in (making sure it’s not too hot obviously).
A big saving grace in the early days for us was a “rockit” attached to the leg of the Moses basket to provide a bit of movement.
You’re doing great and it’s completely normal for baby to not sleep down for quite a while. Xx

Also worth remembering that at 3 weeks old your baby is essentially still a newborn. You are both in the fourth trimester and your baby doesn’t know they aren’t part of you anymore. So it’s normal for them to wake up and cry because he’s wondering where you are! Don’t be too hard on yourself or baby. Have a good research on the 4th trimester if you haven’t already :) x

yeah tbh I didn’t quite register the age of your baby when I replied! At 3 weeks we pretty much contact napped! Id put him in his Moses basket sometimes but for the most part he had cuddles or baby carrier naps then! I did persevere with the crib for night time just because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep well or comfortably cosleeping but he did wake up very regularly xx

Okay thank you everyone for the advise
Am I just being too paranoid then lol i guess it’s okay to let them sleep on you as I’ve been told “oh don’t do that they will get used to it and you’ll be sorry in the long run”

Use one of the love to dream arms up swaddle. Game changer!

were bottle feeding would defo tried that other wise xx

Definitely ok to let them sleep on you, you will not spoil baby that way. All you will do is let them know that you will respond to their needs and create a secure bond.
The things I’ve put above, worked for overnight sleep, but we primarily contact napped until 7 months. Our daughter wasn’t ready for down naps until then and even then it still took a good bit of work. Xx

that’s really reassuring thank you, we did mannage to get him to sleep after him having a two hour wake window he’s currently been sleep for and hour and a half put him down at 8:50pm it’s now 10:20pm so something we did worked for now unless he was just super tired from not sleeping much between 2 and 7 pm x

such young babies don’t have a developed nervous system yet - they use us to regulate so there’s literally no way to spoil them! It’s pretty normal they want to be on you… loads of new research about this - it’s basically impossible to spoil a baby by meeting their basic needs and actually, over the longer term, builds healthy independence, confidence and attachment styles
