C section wound care

I had my c section 5 weeks ago tomorrow and I wasn't really told how to look after the wound. Should I be cleaning it or leaving it? I have a friend that's a nurse who recommend I use cooled boiled water with some salt to clean it, but it's been sore since. I wasn't given any advice in hospital other than don't have a bath. My wound was glued in case that makes a difference. Was anyone here told how to clean the area or if they should clean it?

I wasn’t glued but I am almost 7 weeks PP and I pretty much left it alone aside from shower and then patted dry until I had had my 6 week check up. I only had one bath as I didn’t want to soak it but I think it’s safe. Now I’m using scar balm to keep it hydrated and help it fade.

I had my c-section 10 weeks ago, I was stitched internally but glued outside, I was told to clean it with a non-harsh shower gel (I used dove), a soft flannel and to pat it, then when out the shower to pat it dry. I did have baths too but they were salt baths, no shower gel, shampoo or conditioner was used, just salt. Obviously always make sure it’s dry, lay on the bed or sofa and air it out a couple times a day too. TMI but I’m still suffering with mine as it keeps opening in the middle every so often my nurse thinks they didn’t use enough adhesive to close me up. (I have quite a big overhang to) so it gets sweaty, so it’s best to always air it out if you can so it keeps it dry. If you can’t always do that, put a bit of tissue down there or buy some gauze from a shop to put down there, that’s what I do. If you don’t have a shower or bath everyday, just get some salty water and clean it that way and again make sure it’s dry afterwards🙂x

Thank you, that's really helpful! It's crazy how you don't always get given the information to look after it properly!

I had my c section 8 weeks ago i was told when showering to make sure after shower/bath you pat dry the c section area throughly and not to apply no soap or creams etc. Also mine got infected this time round . I would get it checked if its sore incase its infected. Also from previous c section giving air to wound helps heal it. Even now and then when i have abit of time i give it air by holding stomach up abit just give air it helps heal it i done it last time and this time which help heal . But never told to clean area unless infected . Mines was infected so i had to use kettle boiled water at luke warm temp with cotton wool to clean and dry it cause of infection to apply the cream prescribed.

I had a section 8 weeks ago and got given a leaflet ;

- don’t use any soap on it for at least 6 weeks.
- allow to dry before putting on clothes.
- come 6 weeks you can start to massage the tissue around it with oil go help break down the scar tissue.
- start to do some light crunches in bed to help build your muscles back up
- do pelvic floor exercises
- light exercise only such as walking
- only pick up baby

I had a c-section 5 weeks ago and had an infection. It’s since closed up but I have an overhang and have to gently clean it religiously otherwise it gets really gross. I would say if the wound has completely closed up and healed on the outside, using boiled water to gently clean the skin around the incision will stop a build up of dead skin and bacteria, but continue to just let water run over it and pat dry if not completely healed. I’d avoid using soap or cream until healed.

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

Newborn stage

Is anyone tired of doing the same thing everyday and being on a 2-3 hour schedule? It’s the same everyday and I feel like I’m losing my mind. It’s making me depressed even if I get out once a day. When does it get better? I feel like I’m just waiting for the next stage where it’s not just sitting around all day.
