Hi everyone,
Not sure if anyone else has this problem or knows what I mean.
I have a 1 week old that I am trying to breast feed - she gets bored and frustrated really quickly because I don’t think she can squeeze the milk out.
I know there is milk there because I can easily squeeze it out and can see it squirting out (TMI sorry) but only when I squeeze outside of my areolas. Obviously she can’t get her mouth to the part which squeezes the milk out (if that makes sense!!)
I have an electric pump too, but that also can’t reach to the part which I know squeezes the milk out!
I hope this makes sense?! Basically, the best squeezy part of my boobs that make the best milk can’t be reached by her or by the machine / only by hand expressing.
Anyone know much about this? Or had the same?
Thanks!

Hey Hun your not alone - I have a nearly week old too and I'm struggling she is so squirmy and gets so upset and frustrated. Can't get to latch on at all on right Boob latched a few times on left but won't stay on - I've ended up days I've given mostly formula and some pumped BM. Im like u at a loss.
I'm sorry I don't have advice but I wanted to tell u Ur not alone xx

I’d suggest seeing a lactation consultation or watching breastfeeding videos.
It’s hard to give advice without seeing how you’re allowing baby to latch and I’m sure you don’t want to post a video of you breastfeeding on a public forum.

My baby is going on two weeks and he’s been struggling too, he’s a preemie thoufh. I’ve mainly just been pumping and then supplementing with formula (40-65ml a day), to get rid of his breast milk jaundice, however I’m at a lost too! He gets so frustrated.

Hello! My new baby and my first born have had a tough time latching in my breastfeeding journey. Have you tried a nipple shield? For some reason, this is the only way I can nurse them successfully. My kids have had no issues with eating from bottles but when it came to nursing, I only had luck with a nipple shield. I hope this could help!

I’ve got a 3 and half month old. Struggled with breastfeeding for the first month. He had a small tongue tie which got snipped a week and a bit after his birth. But he was a strong hungry baby and latching worked properly maybe 5 times all in all in that month. Other times it was a struggle. So I pumped and formula fed and now just formula feed. I had to pick a lane for my own sanity and now he’s happy and I’m happy and that’s that. Nobody tells you how hard breastfeeding can be. I did everything, lactation specialist, baby bars, nipple suction cups, nipple shields etc.

First off - you got this mama! When you nurse your baby at the beginning you have to help her latch on. She needs to be latched on to more than just your nipple. When she goes to latch hold your boob like a hamburger (I’m not kidding). Your thumb should be on top and your fingers on the bottom and then you need to squeeze your boob firmly. When she opens her mouth (gently) shove your boob in. This allows her to get a good latch. If this isn’t working I’d contact your pediatrician and see if they have a lactation consultant you can meet with. If they don’t have one look up the Le Leche League. They have a line staffed by moms who have breastfed and can help you too

I would say speak to breastfeeding support plenty out there.
Also the electric pump can get milk out fine. It might me that you have the wrong size flange for your boobs. When I use a 24mm I get barely anything. Breast support at my local hospital said I needed a smaller flange recommended 21mm and straight away I got 60ml now I get 80-100ml each time I pump.
My LO was fussy early but I just kept putting her to the boob to encourage her to latch. She was a wiggly worm now she is much calmer.
