Newborn feed length

Hey my baby is also 5 days old and also getting used to the feed timings!

Each day has been different some 20-30 minutes some a quick 5 minutes! I feel each feed will be different but I definitely think he’s getting plenty of milk ~ can tell by the amount of wet nappies 😂

Unfortunately we are having the same with latches ~ left hand so much easier and comfortable, right is the struggle and can be painful! But sounds like your doing everything right 💞xx

My little one was same at start. I used to delatch her when she wasn’t actively sucking.
Obviously more times he has your breast the more milk your body will produce.
My baby hated my left boob at birth. Turns out this boob doesn’t produce as much. Best advice I can give is to get baby latched onto the boob he doesn’t like first. At start of feed there suck is strongest. It used to take me at least 5 minutes to get a good latch now I can do it in moments.
If LO is falling asleep on boob try stroking his cheek. This wakes my baby up other methods don’t.
My little girl is 1 month old tomorrow.

If you are looking to exclusively breast-feed, I would say get used to being the pacifier, the bottle and the pump lol it’s very demanding and laborious, but so worth it. if you want to exclusively breast-feed, you kinda have to go with the flow and stay on demand little by little he will get more efficient at extracting milk. My baby actually was really bad at breast-feeding in the beginning. She always clicked while sucking and she literally didn’t know how to latch. I also had trouble on my right side. I had to hold her like a football position only on the right side for months now she’s efficient and we don’t have to work so hard. 1year later ! completely EBF. That sounds perfectly normal! It's hard work for them, so they need a little rest. It was like that for almost 2m for us and then started getting shorter, from 4m she got really efficient and would feed for 5-10min
Boob preference is normal, just keep offering. Babies are born with tension from womb and/or birth, so it's easier to feed from one side compared to other. Usually goes away as they stretch over first months
