Will you keep your pets away from the newborn baby for sometime or not? What do you think?

Two weeks ago we started keeping our cats in the living room and not letting them inside the bedrooms anymore. It is hard. For them and for me too. But i want to keep them away for few months when baby is here. Just to be safe and because of the fur. They also would crawl into bassinet and sleep on the changing station and stroller etc. i miss them very much, but it feels like the right decision for now.

We have a puppy and a dog. Both are very sweet nature. Our adult dog doesn’t mind kids as long as there not pulling on her fur over and over again. But she pretty much isolates are self away from humans unless it’s me. And our puppy isn’t super playful but can be. Usually he sleeps most of the day. Our only worry is what if our new born is sleeping and our puppy wants to play. He usually tells us by barking that he wants to play other than that we absolutely trust our dogs around our sweet baby.

For me it's going to depend on how my baby's lungs are. Currently she's measuring really small and may need to come out a little early so if that's the case I'll probably keep my pets away from her for a couple months/as long as it takes for it to be safe but I don't plan on keeping them away from her as long as she's healthy :)

My cats were like this when I was pregnant with my first baby. They always wanted to lay on baby's things, we ended up just putting a towel down for them to lay on. Once baby was actually here they wouldn't go near the baby. They just watched baby from afar and never got back on the baby's things.

I’ve been closing our bedroom door lately keeping my two cats out in preparation for the baby coming and it’s hard for them and me. They scratch at the door a little, but usually give up pretty fast. I miss cuddling them and enjoy sleeping with them, but I don’t feel comfortable with them around baby until the baby can roll over and “defend” itself. Even if the risk is small, cats laying on top of baby and suffocating them isn’t something I’m willing to risk. Hopefully those first few months will go by fast and the cats won’t want anything to do with baby anyway. I’ve read a lot that cats will be like that. But also, my cats will lay on anything warm and surely the baby will be warm and snuggly!

Yep I’m keeping my dog away from baby. My dog is nice, but I’m keeping them separate.

Studies have shown children living with pets in their first year of life have better immune systems, and I havent found any reputable sources that fur might be dangerous just one person saying it on reddit.

I'm keeping dog around baby (for the most part).

I am, however, not letting dog around baby when the baby is sleeping, and usually the doors to rooms are closed when we arent in them and she sleeps on a cooling doggie bed by our bedroom door not with us so she's used to not having free reign.

I definitely think teaching cats they don't have free reign everywhere is a good idea before baby comes, and I wouldn't want cats and baby sleeping in the same room. However, fur isn't much of an issue from what I have seen.

I have 4 dogs and 5 cats, for us we want to see how our fur baby's do the first week or so with baby at home... we do keep all the baby's stuff behind a closed door in his nursery. We will be purchasing a play pen for our son that he can do tummy time and play in and not have the dogs interrupt. Also, we have been working with our dogs to feel comfortable with being outside for longer periods of time in case they are being loud and baby is sleeping. As for the cats, we hardly see them throught the day, they are very independent. But I'm aware they will be curious when baby comes home. We will be doing a slow intro with each dog and cat once we are home with baby boy! Hoping for the best!

My cats did the same thing, jumped in the bassinet and crib. I let them until about 2 ish weeks ago. I got a spray bottle and when they would jump in there I gave them a little spritz and now they don’t anymore. It seriously only took spraying them once or twice and they never wanted to go back in.

We've been spending the last three months getting our cats used to sleeping outside our bedroom. We set up the bassinet, but we caught 2 out of 4 of our cats messing with it, so we took it down. I have caught the same 2 cats in the crib, so whenever we're not in the baby's room, that door is shut.

My husband doesn't 100% agree and thinks it won't be a problem to have our door open with our baby sleeping with us at night, but I told him we are absolutely not chancing us being asleep and one of the cats trying to get in the bassinet and something happening.

He has so many coworkers saying that it won't be an issue. It's not like I don't trust these people, it's that I can't mentally handle even the CHANCE of something happening.

I won't be necessarily separating them from the baby when we're awake, unless they exhibit any sort of behavior like growling or something. That part I'm less worried about.

I miss my cats, but i want to make sure baby is safe and wont have deadly cozy cat cuddles by accident.

Sahm .. the dad role .

Hi!! I’m 2 months pp. and I really would like your opinion on this situation if you have a moment.
So I have always had a job before the baby, and my bd .. not really. But 2 weeks before he was born he scored a really good job and I was able to be a sahm. Which is what I wanted , and I’m unsure if it’s still what I want or if the situation just isn’t right.
At first he was a great help in the hospital as I had an emergency c section. I was in the hospital for about a week and for most of that time I was in bed .
But after that.. I’m lucky if he will watch the baby while I shower .and I mean that seriously.
I am the only one who changes diapers, only one who bathes , feeds or watched him in general. And of course he may be tired after work but it’s like he completely avoids any responsibility. Like he will take a hour coming home and stop by his friends house otw . He will sit down stairs for hours knowing I won’t go down there bc I’m uncomfy . So I have the baby then.
We have been out maybe 2-3 times sense I had him & he refused to push the stroller c change or anything. In fact we got to the mall and said he needed to split up and I had the baby.
I feel he only wants the baby when it’s for … attention? Like to post the baby on social media or if his family is here he will take him .

I just feel like on days he doesn’t have work the next morning he should be helping , and if he is up early before work while I’m still sleeping he should get the baby instead of scrolling on reels for 3 hours .

Honestly he has really ruined my new born phase with my son. Within the first week of us being home I had to full on switch to survival mode I would call it. He would complain if dinner wasn’t done or if the room was a mess , he would complain if the diaper caddy had no diapers which really makes no sense bc he didn’t even changed the diapers . It was just everything.
I’m just wondering if there is anything I could say to get some type of help out of him.
I tried reaching out to his mother but honestly his hole family is oblivious to his behaviour.

AITA?

This isn't a major issue, just wondering if I'm being a bit of an asshole.

• I do shift work, 5 out of 7 days, full-time.
• My partner works from home (mostly, sometimes he goes into the office) M-F, full-time.

Anyway, whenever I have a day off during the week he gets in his feelings when I make myself food (breakfast and lunch) but not him. His reason is he's working, I'm not - Which is fair but I've asked him how many times on a weekend has he gotten up, on his day off and made me breakfast and a lunch to take with me to work? You guessed it, 0.

So basically, just because I'm at home I don't think the responsibility to feed him should automatically fall on me when he manages to feed himself just fine while I'm at work.

Should I respect his wishes??

I’ve been a SAHM for 4 years now and my husband does a great job providing for our family and we never need for anything. With that i still had to sacrifice some wants like shopping when I want getting my hair and nails done regularly so when I can I try to supplement for my wants and savings by selling my craft items at vendor markets and recently I’ve started donating plasma. Which has been consistent income for me. $125 twice a week. Well my husband has expressed that he doesn’t like me donating plasma. He feels like it’s not worth it to put my body through those conditions for $125. He even went out to sell one of his guns today and gave me all the money and told me “I shouldn’t have to donate plasma no more”. That was so sweet but I disagree. I planned on continuing to donate plasma to save for my kids birthdays thats coming up, a trip we have planned and our anniversary. I don’t know what to do. I finally found something that pays something consistently and my husband is against it. What should I do?
