Has anyone else’s little one had an op to sort their tongue tie?? My boy will be 18 months next Thursday and has his op at great ormand street hospital that day and I’m so nervous about it , worried that he will react badly to the anaesthetic, needing some reassurance, like is the hospital as good as people say it is??

Hiya. My son had a tongue tie snipped when we was around 3 or 4 weeks old. We took him to the hospital about it and it was really quick and seemed pain free. They put a water/sugar combination in his mouth for pain relief (not quite sure how that works) and got a pair of scissors and made the cut. It over over in seconds and I don’t remember my son crying.
Obviously, now your boy is that bit older he will be more aware of what’s happening but try and take comfort in the fact the hospital will do this day in, day out and will be used to dealing with children of all ages. It will be over before you know it and your son will be absolutely fine. The plus side to him being older now is that they will likely use lidocaine to numb it so he won’t feel a thing xxx

My little one had it done when he was 4 months. He didn't have an anesthetic, was just numbed. It was absolutely fine. X
