I’m pretty late on giving my son solids and he doesn’t seem to want anything I make him. It’s almost like I have to force feed him. Sometimes it’s easy and he will eat for me but the majority of the time he doesn’t want to. Any advice or tips or tricks. He’s ten months and I’ve been trying sense he was 7 months. It’s making me feel like a failure because everyone else’s baby is eating a whole meal by 9 months.

Hi 11 months in a week here and we had our first full meal literally last night. I didn't do anything different but followed my baby's lead and kept offering her new and different foods. They'll do it when they're ready.

So not sure if this is weird but I mixed my baby’s food with a little bit of breast milk and fed it in a bottle (made a bigger hole in the nipple) and she is more willing to eat it this way (she is seven months and doesn’t like to be fed with a spoon) it gets her trying the different veggies and fruits and so far has worked for us. As a result she takes it from the spoon better now. I do still add a tiny bit of milk to the food to make it creamier and it just works better as she likes it better. Maybe you can try this?

My daughter did not start eating solids really until a little after 11 months. As a first time mom I was very nervous about her choking so I really limited what I gave her, plus she really didnt show much interest. She preferred formula. When she started daycare around 11 months she began to eat more solids. She now has the best appetite.
It may take awhile but it will come. For me what worked was her seeing other people eating and giving her a variety of baby friendly foods.
Good luck mama ✨️

Thank you guys so much this makes me feel a lot better!!!!! I just feel like a failure because I see all these moms on social media giving there little ones a whole meal and my son will barely even eat the purées that I make him. But I’m going to try all of you beautiful mamas advice ☺️💙

Are you only doing purees? Or have you started table food yet?

I’ve tried eggs and soft toast and chopped banana but he just squeezes it or plays with it. And I put gerber oatmeal in his bottle in the mornings, which he likes that. But I’ve kinda just gave up on giving him actually food right now because he doesn’t seem to want it. It’s so weird he will put everything in his mouth but when it comes to food he just won’t 😩😫🤦♀️

Ah okay. Well play is important for them to learn so I'd keep offering lots of different things to get him excited and I found that eating the same thing at the same time helps a lot. Even a few bites is enough for them as they're still getting milk so they shouldn't be coming to the table starving. You got this!

thanks hunnie I’ll try that

Have you tried just putting the food in front of him on his high chair tray and letting him explore it instead of trying to feed him?
My LO is 11 months. I usually cut up his food small enough so it’s not a choking hazard, I put the food on his high chair tray and let him feed himself. He’ll pick what seems interesting and try it, and he does this usually until he’s done.
So far he’s a good eater. He eats anything I put in front of him.
Ive even made myself a plate of what he’s eating and I’ll sit right next to him eating together and he seems to enjoy that.
Some babies seem to be more interested in food so it’s just about trying different things and seeing what works for you and your LO!

Playing with food is a big part of eating solids! Keep offering different foods. It took my son being offered the same food 3 or 4 times before he would really eat it. Also, I don’t feed him, I let him self feed. I chop things up to an appropriate size so he can pick them up, but small enough it’s not a choking hazard. Also, try more variety different fruits, different proteins etc then they can explore different textures as well.

I'd recommend checking out Solid Starts on Instagram if you haven't already

yes I do everytime. He just starts shaking and squeezing it or throwing it on the floor 🤦♀️ lol

I’m going to try eating the same thing as him just a smaller portion like you mentioned

It’s really normal for them to just play with their food it’s how they learn about it and gives them a good relationship with food. I was told by the doctor not to worry about how much they eat in one meal, when they are hungry they will eat. They also said that they might eat more at the beginning of the week and then eat less for the rest of it.

Hi! My little one is 14 months and only eats few foods. Some days it’s better than the others. I just put food in front of her and she eat what she wants. Like everyone else said, when they hungry they will eat. Just keep offering and don’t make a big deal about it.
