Timeframe of symptoms

My LG has a suspected allergy, she is combifed I would say 70/30 BF. Is on Aptamil Pepti 1 which has helped take the edge off (stopped the mucous in her stool and the awful belly aches) but she still gets a rash flare up after BF and constantly has a blocked nose.

I have now cut dairy and soya out fully but read it can take 3-4 weeks to fully leave my system. I’m now trying to reintroduce Kendamil as per my doctors wishes to see if it’s truly a dairy allergy.

How long can I expect to see mucous in her stool from the dairy? It’s hard to tell with the rash / blocked nose etc as that never really went even on the allergy milk, her stool has never stopped smelling of vinegar etc. The only thing that stopped was the mucous in her stool and colic symptoms once I took her off the kendamil.

I am keen to stop the kendamil ASAP if it starts to affect her gut again and I’m just worried it’s going to take ages to come out and then ages to repair her gut again 😔 anyone had any experience with this?

I moved onto lactose free milk 3 weeks ago. He was on percribed peti 1 too and we tried all sorts of milk nothing helped. The doctors and doetrition kept saying its milk protein allergy… so we went with our gut and ignored them. Best change since. All his symptoms went away. Breast milk has lactose and milk proteins in it so maybe he’s allergic to your milk now. You can cut out dairy completely in your diet. I think thats what you do if baby has allergy? May have to look that one up as i didn’t bf very long due to tongue tie

thank you! I’ve cut out dairy completely now but only for a few days (I originally just cut out straight dairy but ate things with dairy in) so I’m wondering if that’s why her symptoms have never fully gone..

My daughter has cmpa and I breastfed (did combi feed to start with but gave up as she never got on with the aptamil pepti 1 formula). It can take a few weeks for the symptoms to go away completely if you’ve only just cut them out from your diet but I started to see an improvement within a few days. The formula will leave her body quicker than the dairy will leave your breast milk and if you give kendamil then you will likely see symptoms within 48 hours (this is what our dietitian told me)

thank you. She’s been having a little bit of kendamil (total only 3oz since last night as she only has roughly 2 bottles a day!) weird her rash hasn’t come up from the kendamil but comes up after I BF (only sometimes) so wondering if it’s soya or another allergy she might have. I know for sure if the mucous comes back it’s the dairy too though so will just wait to see! I would stop the formula but she deffo needs it to top up in the morning / evening 😢

You could be right. Perhaps try keeping a food diary? My daughter also has an egg allergy. I discovered this at random really after I ate poached eggs and then she was sick a little while after, I realised it had happened a few times before but I hadn’t clocked. It’s really hard to work it out! How old is your daughter? If the formula works for you both then it’s absolutely fine! My daughter was sick after every feed with it, even with the thickener, so ebf was the best option for us

ah that’s a good idea. I’ve now cut dairy and soya completely so if in 3 weeks her rash still comes up I think I need to also start eliminating other stuff! I don’t eat egg but do eat things with egg in (mayo for example) so could definitely be that! She is 10 weeks now; has been on the Aptamil Pepti since around 3 weeks. The doctor told me to keep eating dairy etc if she could tolerate it as it’s good to keep some of it going through? It doesn’t seem to make her tummy bad but she’s definitely not tolerating something fully due to the rash and constant blocked nose.. so just decided to cut it all out now. He basically thinks she might have not tolerated the kendamil due to her digestive system just starting to work etc, so wants me to try her back on it now to see if it now can and isn’t an allergy! Which does make sense and know I need to give it a go. The aptamil pepti is soo watery, I think it was giving her a bit of reflux due to that!

Avatar

now you’ve cut everything out is she much happier? My little one has just started to pass wind and poo easier but now worried it’s all going to flare up again.. at least I know if it does dairy is one of the things she’s allergic to! Just hate to think of it hurting her, in the last 10 weeks it feels like she always has had soo many tummy aches

My daughter is 21 months now and we’re working our way through all the allergy ladders. We’ve completed soya and we’re up to egg and milk baked into things (like cake etc). I was able to breastfeed to 16 months and after we got on top of the allergies, she was like a different baby although never been a good sleeper! You can ask the doctor to prescribe a thickener for the aptamil pepti. My daughter’s rash looked like sunburn on her face and then she had eczema on her body and it all totally cleared up. I’m convinced she had silent reflux as well as she never wanted to be laid down so she slept on one of us for the first 3 months which was fun 😳

Routines?

When did you start to introduce your baby’s routine? Do they just have a night routine or full day routine? Wondering when I should start this e.g naps at the same time everyday.

Any routines you have that work for you, please let me know them with timestamps. my baby is 6 weeks and just wondering when we should start them?

Does anyone else’s baby spit up breastmilk but not formula?

I’m seriously considering seeing a lactation consultant because I don’t understand why he can’t hold down breastmilk but can formula. I use soy formula since I’ve used it with my daughter and I’m thinking it might be due to not getting milk coming in for a few days so I had no choice but to give him formula, but now even if I take breaks in between feeding him breastmilk to burp or try to mix breastmilk and formula, he spits it up sooo much. I’m ready to just give him just formula because I’m worried about him not eating enough

I think Motherhood has made me more bitter than I realized…

This is such a ramble but I don’t know where else to put it all.

I’m four months in and I don’t really have hobbies right now. I don’t do anything for myself except maybe doomscrolling or listening to a podcast while I breastfeed my baby. I used to craft and have game nights with friends. Activities that usually are at least 2 hour stretches. Now if I have an hour free my mind immediately goes to baby, or doing something in the house for baby.

And I thought I didn’t mind. Like I knew postpartum could be very mentally consuming. But I think it’s altering how I view people around me and it’s prodding at my relationship with my husband.

He spends most of his time making food for us, looking after our dogs, playing with the baby, ect. But he still has time for his hobby. Spends maybe an hour a night on it. Even adapted to using a bot for shopping for his hobby after a certain incident where we had to have a heart to heart after he left me home alone with the baby for hours during a busy workday (I work from home) to shop for his hobby.

And yet there’s like this little green eyed monster in me that rages every time I know he’s running off to start up the bot. Even though I’m the reason he does it this way.

We took a family trip last weekend to see his best friend and their kids and let them meet the baby. He brought the laptop. He’s always brought a laptop on trips and it’s never been a problem to me before. But one night we both woke up while the baby was still asleep, and he wandered out of the room. I tried to fall back asleep but couldn’t. So I went to the kitchen to try having something warm to drink to settle me. And he was there at the table running the bot from his laptop. I flipped out at him. But there really wasn’t reason to. It’s not like I needed help with the baby and he was ignoring me. He wasn’t avoiding our friends. He was just awake and unable to sleep and found something to do with his time. Yet my snap reaction was “why the hell would you do this on a family trip?”

I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the less complete sleep from baby’s middle of the night feed? My brain being just consumed by baby? Maybe I’m not as over that shopping incident as I thought? But I’m just so annoyed at his hobby right now. The green eyed monster thinks “you could be using that time differently” but realistically to do what exactly??? Stare at our baby in the dark???

I spent probably an hour apologizing to him after I snapped. And he’s of course hurt and frustrated because I said some very mean things in the moment.

I don’t want to be this jealous, angry person. But I also don’t know how to find time for myself in this right now outside of basic hygiene. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to be myself, even if just for an hour.

Maybe I need a therapist.
