I’m 36w+1 day and have started collecting colostrum. Anyone else? I’m managing to collect about 1ml from each breast each session… is this a normal amount? One breast is easier than the other! I have a midwife app on Wednesday so will ask her then anyway but interested to know! Photo for attention 🥰

Liquid gold!! Well done you :) I never could with my first (but still BF for 18m) but will try again with this baby :)

You shouldn’t really start collecting until 37 weeks as it can bring on labour. However sounds like your collecting is going really well! Most people have one breast which produces more so totally normal 😊

my midwife and hospital said from 36 weeks! :) xx

Not starting until next week at 37 because I’m petrified of going into early labour and I’m such a scaredy cat🫣🤣 but that seems really good from everything I’ve seen online! I’ve been leaking for a few weeks and it’s always the same one that leaks so seems completely normal! X

I’m 36+3 and have been getting about the same the last few days!

Majority of resources online and even nhs say you can from 36 weeks. I'm getting the same as you and also have a boob that's easier Haha 😄

Wow that’s amazing - I managed to collect a pathetic 0.65ml total in like, 5 attempts - 3 syringes on different days. 😅

I knew I wouldn’t struggle because I’ve been leaking for the past couple of weeks 🤣🤣do you have a warm shower or use a warm compress beforehand? Heard that is supposed to help! Xx

Midwife told me do it at 37....,but how do you do it? Xx

I’m just using my hand to create droplets then using the syringe to suck them up! Finding it quite easy! Xx

Yeah I’ve been leaking since w26 too but not huge amounts… I do the whole warm shower/warm compress thing but it’s only so much that comes out at each session. 🫤 I don’t do it for ages though (max 20-25min in total) as I don’t want to hurt my boobs or stress them too much!

I’ve just been doing for 10 mins each boob! I found lying down in bed is the best place for me. And you can do it multiple times a day if it helps! My midwife said 1-3 times a day is fine! X

Yeah my total amount was over multiple days and multiple sessions eheh… I think some people just produce more than others and that’s it! Some friends of mine were super dry and never leaked during pregnancy but managed to breastfeed successfully (even if they had a c-section) so I’m not overly worried! 😊

Ooooh I’ve been waiting for 37 weeks ! I’ll start trying tonight I’m 36 + 3 🙌♥️

I want to try soon! I’m 36+4 and not entirely sure on how. No leakage during pregnancy so I’m sceptical if I’ll be successful 🙈

That’s a good amount 💖 if you need help with questions I’m your girl 😊

Silly question but I’m thinking of starting this soon… would a breast pump help me collect colostrum or is it such a tiny amount it’s not worth trying it with the pump? Xx

same as me! Not everyone can get lots of full syringes… I have been collecting for a week and still nothing! Max amount in one go 0.35ml! xx

I would check with a midwife - I feel like a pump is a bit too aggressive at this stage and with hand expression you have more control on intensity etc. xx

my midwife told me the same too. From 36 weeks. Apparently if your body isn't ready to go into labour then it won't!

are you freezing each syringe with only a little bit in or are you topping it up each day ?

you can keep in fridge for 24 hours but then need to freeze xx

Ok amazing thanks both !

I actually did, but I must ask where on earth did you get that little syringe with the cap lol

just on Amazon! Searched “colostrum syringe”. They’re all sterilised so really easy to use! X

@isobel thank you for your comments :) xx
