For context, we live with my husbands mother. Have done since last July our son was born in August.
My husband has a 10yo son from a previous relationship, and my mil does not like his BM. To be fair, his BM is not my favourite person, but we do try to be nice.
This weekend has been tence with SS and MIL, MIL mad at BM for making SS upset on FRI (first day with us over the weekend) as soon as he got to ours for no reason that couldn't of been sorted when he went home to BM SUN.
MIL collects SS from BM as she drives, and BM lives over 70 miles away. Because MIL does this for us, we are very grateful and pay extra rent to help this.
Well, because BM and hubby needed to talk and his request didn't go down well, MIL went off on one and everything. I'd suggest anything or spoke she would jump down my throat. To be clear, I was talking with my MIL and husband about the possibility of mediation because BM said no to even wanting to talk about issues.
MIL think she knows everything and you can't have a different thought or suggestion as its wrong and she points out all the things which are baby related basically in the house and says that it's an issue. Baby Play Matt out that in the way, oh some laundry hasn't been taken up yet if social get involved in this will be a problem. Its 3 baby grows and a blanket. She constantly comes home and smashes about regardless if my son is asleep.
Today I had to get up at 10am feed baby and get ready for an appointment at 1pm including travelling to appointment I got back at 2:30pm and had enough time to wash the bottles and turn tv on before baby woke up set tv and sort my lunch and baby's next bottle and baby fell back asleep before my husband got up for work and MIL came home, she then went on a smash around the kitchen my husband had tk go tell her to stop she then mutters to her self about the washing up. I haddent got to it. I'm looking after a 4mo, and he is extra clingy today for no apparent reason.
Mu husband normally will excuse her behaviour as its just how she is but I make a point of working hard to tidy up behind me and Kids and even her but obviously that's not seen and she is the only one who dose anything. I want to smash her into a wall! It's getting to me and I can normally wait to talk to her but she made a point to make dinner for only her and go to her room.

Personally I don’t feel I could ever tell someone how to behave in their own home. I get it might be irritating and upsetting but I’m guessing she is doing a really nice thing with you guys living their and driving long distance for your step son so I think at this point it may just be a case of sucking it up until you can have your own space they you can decide exactly how you want your space to be x

Idk if it's just me but I would make it a point to keep it clean bc it is her house. Yes you all pay rent but (in my head) anything she say would resonate its her house. Not worth a fight until you and hubby in your own. HIS mom not going anywhere and for some reason MILs just have to meddle if you're in her house or not I doubt she will change It sounds like her personality. She will find other things even after you all move out its her thing (complaining) something hubby is used to. You are valid in saying your day is busy and you're taking care of a clingy 4month old if MIL comes home and says ugh playmat on the floor! Just say let me get that up. She's trying to get to you older women get complexes when another woman is in their house. Keep it nice even your husband will soon cling to you and your niceness even more she will be left out cold bc she just complains. the baby will continue to grow it will become easier on you. Naps will be longer he will learn to sit and play by himself. This shall pass!

Next thing you're complaining to your husband. MIL complains to her son. He is taking all the complaints, but as his wife, you're his peace and his mom will sit in her place soon enough no matter how much it hurts to bit your tongue just do it for this family that you are building with your husband... good luck
Thank you, I hold my toung as much as I can and normally MIL and me are okay she is just been unbearable since before Christmas and it's getting to me. My family is everything to me and that includes her too, once we are out of here I know I'd miss her but damn it can't come fast enough xx
@Claudia also for reference the living room and kitchen are open plan and about 4ft apart with no wall space so of my boy is napping its contact naps on me on the sofa If she was asleep and I started to bash things I'd expect to be told to not do it. And it's not as if we are telling her to cut off he left foot just her grandson is sleein the same room can you not smash the cupboards and dishes about .

I’m not saying it’s right at all, I’m just saying unfortunately I don’t think you can do anything as it’s her house. I think everyone’s in laws/family have different ideas on how we should parent our children and sometimes we have to pick our battles and I think you should save yours for when you can have all the say ie in your own home! I completely understand your frustration though

I’m sorry I accidentally reported someone’s comment on this without meaning too. 🫣 just incase you wondered. It was just my big fat thumb.
I think the sooner you can get a place the easier. Your husband needs to find a better solution than using his mum to ensure contact with his son too. It’s his responsibility, not hers. That is a big ask on her and then you all in her home too. She sounds annoying yes but also stressed with the situation
@Jemma we are this year learning to drive me first as I have the time but unfortunately my husband has dyslexia really bad and finding the theory and hazard perception preparation hard, I'm dyslexic too but not as bad.
The train is another option expensive, but again it would be me due to his working schedule.
He can't change as its set shifts 6 pm to 6 am, and he works Fridays. BM moved thinking my husband wouldn't keep contact.
My dad and his mum have gone above and beyond to help us. Unfortunately, my dad suffered a heart attack and gave up driving long distances and eventually his car too.
Our goal is to be out of here by January 2025 but I can't see that happening yet.

I think you could get reasonable adjustments for the theory if you have a learning difficulty to accommodate the dyslexia. Also BM should have equal responsibility for commuting. I think I read your previous post now you said this. The courts can enforce this as it’s not fair to just be on your husband
She picks my ss up Sundays but never gives us a time and some weeks it's early and he isn't prepared. Lol I do like to moan on here as it better then just having it all explode at my poor husband, he is patient with me but I don't want to use him as a emotional rant service when we only see each other for about a hour a day unless its his day off and then we have his boy xx

Defo rant away. It’s healthy to get it all out and that’s what here is for x
