35 weeks and feeling disconnected

Not sure if this is just me but I feel so disconnected to my body right now. My mind is just so anxious. I haven’t prepared much mentally and don’t have my hospital bags ready and haven’t bought a lot of clothes for the baby as I feel I don’t know where to start. I don’t know what to expect for my labour and whether to breastfeed or bottle feed. I just feel like there is so much information I really don’t know what to do and what to start. I have no motivation. I feel really lonely and don’t have much family support around me. My husband works two jobs and does everything he can for me. I can’t wait to meet my baby but feel like I’m going to be a crap mother and not ready for motherhood. I don’t have my life together. Any tips? Any advice? Anyone else feeling like this

Oh sweetheart, I really feel this for you. I have moments of disconnection myself - the overwhelm at this stage is very real isn’t it!

If I can offer any support though, I’d recommend the following:

1. Book “Nobody tells you” It’s full of positive stories from real women.

2. Podcast: “Is it Normal” by Jessie Ware. Very binge-able. Short episodes with info covered for each week.

3. Hypnobirthing: Loads of options here, but worth watching a few videos on YouTube “the positive birth company” has some decent content. It’s about physiology as much as mentality and can be very calming.

4. Yoga: either in person if there is a class near you, or online. It’s a lovely way to calm your mind and prepare your body for birth. If in person you’re around other women feeling the same too. Either will give you useful movements to help connect.

Hope this helps. 🤗

Bless you ☹️. Maybe make a list of everything you still need to do/ make decisions on and just focus on one thing at a time, even if it’s just for ten minutes each day. Defo look into some of the resources Beth has suggested above as just being informed of different options will help you make decisions and feel more prepared. Hypnobirthing is great! You still have time so try not to worry, and I’m sure once the baby is born you will quite quickly make a decision about how you want to try and feed, so maybe just be mentally prepared for both options and then see how you feel at the time x

I am feeling the same way I am all over at 37 weeks 3days no family around just me and my husband I am trying to do what I can my hospital bag not ready too but I’m trying and also staying positive and avoid thinking too much the doctor told me to avoid stress as it can cause high blood pressure so i would advise you to recollect yourself don’t stress know that it’s normal to feel that way and you are not alone

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Is this normal?

My 12m old is really funny with kids going near him, he’s always been this way, but anytime family’s kids sit next to him or head his way he moans or cries and moves away. He also really observes them and is never really relaxed, always looking over his shoulder. Has anyone experienced this? (He’s starting nursery properly tomorrow so hoping this helps) but is this normal?

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅
