I'm starting to feel like I'm failing my child.
My LO is 16 months and has hit his milestones for motor skills. Walking, climbing, and running. But his gestures and vocabulary skills are not where other kids are at his age or even younger. He baby babbles and says about 3/4 words.
I'm already feeling like a failure, but when I have people saying "oh he's not doing or saying that yet," blah blah is doing this or that it makes me feel worse. when I say something to my husband about it, he either goes well, do something about it, or he's fine.
Im going to talk to my doctor about if I'm worried about nothing or if we need to start looking into something to help him.
But is this normal feeling this way or where he is developmentally.

My daughter is 17 months with no words and not a ton of gestures. The doctors gave us a self referral line for speech language pathology - we are in AB. We have a lot of people also saying it isn’t a big deal but I figured if we have the resource I might as well use it.
I think the mom guilt is sadly normal in our parenting culture but it doesn’t mean you are actually failing.

Early intervention is a great way to encourage skills and check there aren’t any underlying issues. Most people probably just need a boost and variation in exposure.
