So first off my husband is a good man and good dad however I wanted kids more than he did (although we eventually ended up doing ivf so I feel like he wanted it too). Long story short initially he was great with our baby but in the last 3 weeks (baby is 9 weeks old) he has become increasingly moody and unpredictable and a bit mean.
The only ways he relaxes is either going to the pub or drinking alcohol whilst cooking meals. We have previously discussed that I think he drinks too much. Tonight was the start of a week off for him and he has been particularly low this week. He is cooking and our hob goes on the blink. We both try and sort it but it's not for fixing and it ends with him saying things like this is the only good thing in his life etc
I'm really worried about him but he can be difficult to get to express his emotions constructively and also I can't help but be selfish and think about how I cannot live my life tiptoeing around him and walking on eggshells.
It's so difficult and also don't want my daughter to grow up with a depressed dad. I'm also aware a lot of men struggle with this time so any advice would be great

What I learned from personal experience is if you never express your emotions and get it either validated or resolved, it will just keep on piling up. Drinking is definitely not a healthy way to cope, so him needs help to figure out what he is coping with and a better way to deal with it. We need to normalize men expressing emotions. Maybe sit with him to create a safe space to talk, look into personal therapy or fatherhood support groups.

It sounds like he could have Post Natal Depression. Missing his old life, feeling trapped, exhausted, depressed. You need to ask him to speak to someone š

I'm not sure what hob on the blink means but I'm in a similar situation he's a good dad and husband but he is so sensitive and I have to walk on egg shells around him

My partner is exactly the same and it all started around the same time. He has been diagnosed with post natal depression.
Since his diagnosis, he has been going to therapy which is slowly helping him understand his feelings and finding ways to deal with them.
It took him months to express his feelings to me so if you can start trying to have those hard conversations with your husband now, he can start on his path to feeling better sooner.
Itās such a tough time for both of you and dealing with a baby and a partner with depression is tough but once he has been open with you, get him to talk to his friends and family about how he feels. Itās amazing how many other people relate when people open up and it will help him feel less alone.
Make sure you also have support from someone as well cos itās tough on you to support him so you need a solid friend or family member to talk/ rant to as well.
I hope things start to get better for the both of you soon x

PPD in men is real and happens a lot more often than people think. Mine went to therapy and itās helped him understand a lot. A lot of his buddies are going through it now not realizing they need therapy and itās not something they just get through.

I've just seen and written this on another post after remembering. We snapped at each other alot for afew weeks and I thought well something needs to change, and I had to remember he's a good dad, husband and he does help alot, so I tell him several times a day, you're a great dad, I love you, I appreciate everything you do, and honestly it changed how we speak to each other. It's alot nicer. Talking is also important ā¤ļøāš©¹
Thanks everyone, I just tried to talk to him this morning, I asked what was wrong as he wasn't himself and he replied, 'nothing goes right so what's the point' and then I asked if he would speak to someone like even a friend and he said 'fuck off no....' genuinely considering going to stay at my mums or something
