How is everyone manging on the go feeding whilst out and about? What are you using/what methods?

Normally I would express the day/morning before leaving, and would either heat up a bottle using hot water from a coffee shop or I heat up before and put it in a thermal bag which I got with my bottles. But my LO isn't very fussy when it comes to feeding, as long as he is getting some he doesn't mind.
I haven't yet plucked up the courage to breastfeed in public

I should have mentioned I am bottle feeding. In the house I make 6 and put them in the fridge for max 24 hours, but they can only be out of the fridge at room temp for 2 hours and my little boy feeds every 3-4 hours so taking 1 or more out isn't feasible really x

I went to my friends tea room the other day and had her hold a muslin up for me while we established latch and then just sat with him, I have no shame 😂 at my local shopping center they have an awesome room for feeding with curtains and sofas for comfort and privacy, going to the aquarium on Friday with my brother and plan to just find a quiet space and enjoy the fishies while he has his fill.. only annoying thing I find is he feeds for about an hour so I'm stuck wherever I choose and just have to catch up with everyone 🙃 breastfeeding is a normal natural thing and in my opinion everyone else has to get over it 😅 xxx

It depends on where we’re going! If we’re at someone’s house or in a restaurant/cafe for a while, I’ll take pre measured powder in a little container and make up a bottle using boiling water or the hot shot method (I’ll just ask for the boiling water in the restaurant and don’t bother taking a flask). The ‘nuby rapid cool’ is really great for cooling down quickly.
I’ll also always have a couple of the pre made Aptimil formula bottles in my changing bag, just super handy for when you need to feed them somewhere where making up a bottle with powder isn’t practical! No need to warm these up. X

I either have the ready made kendamil bottles or use the tommee tipee go prep formula maker. One thermos I have the boiling water and I cool it in the the go prep for the perfect temp.

I use the nuby rapid cool. It works wonders

Thanks all.... I am bottle feeding. With the flask of boiling hot water, how long does it stay hot enough to kill the bacteria in the milk? Thank you

And how many ml/oz or what ratio would you use for how much to keep as the hot shot?

I do hot shot, thermos flask keeps temp for 24 hours. I take cooled boiled water 3oz and use 3oz hot water and the temp is perfect

ahh that's amazing, so stays good for 24 hours even if you open it more than once to make more than 1 bottle? As in 70 degrees or more to kill bacteria?.... Also, my boy takes milk at room temperature, is there a minimum oz that I can use as the hot shot? Or doesn't it matter how much or how little? Like would 1oz hot shot be fine?

yeah completely fine to use for 24 hours after but I tend to not leave it that long anyway. I got my thermos flask from Amazon they’re cheap enough but it was the only flask I found that kept the temp! It’s recommended at least 10ml of boiled water per scoop of formula and then use cooled water for the rest. My little boy only like room temp milk too. I found if I only one 1oz hot shot the milk was cold rather than room temp.

So for 6oz bottle they suggest nothing less than a 2oz hot shot but I find 3oz works perfect for me. Just whatever the right temp is for you but as long as you follow the general rule of 10ml per scoop you’ll be fine x

ahh well that's good to know thank you. I'll try half and half and then try figure out a good ratio from there. I have just bought the nuby rapid cool kit with 2 rapid cools and 1 thermal flask. How would I check the temperature? Just pour some into a cup of some sort and test with a thermometer or?

yeah that’s all I did got a food thermometer and checked the temp every hour in the flask and checked how much the temp had changed and how long it had taken to go under 70degrees I usually put the water In the flask around 85 degrees to give me more time too as the flask will be cold when the water is added so does make the temp drop a little. Just be weary if you’re doing the hot shot method they don’t recommend using the rapid cools as it cools the water down before adding the formula.
I just take 1 bottle full of cooled boiled water and then my empty bottle, pour the water from the flask into my empty bottle and add formula give it a mix and then add my cooled boiled water in after and it’s perfect x

I'll try that with the temp. I intended to only cool down the extra water in the rapid cool and put the hot shot in the sterilised bottle and then add the formula and mix and then add the cooled water from the rapid cool once ready.... Do you think that is okay?

That should work yeah, I’ve never used one myself just as the way I do the hot shot works for me but you can certainly try it. I find keeping the bottle of cooled boiled water in the fridge helps keep it cooler for when we’re out and about helping keep the temp down. I temp checked his milk and it’s always around 25/26 degrees once all made up. It did take me a few attempts at it to get completely comfortable and work out what worked best for me. Even try making his bottled at home that way a few times first before you try when you’re out of the house, that way you can make sure you’ve got the right method without the stress of it not being right while you’re out! X

that's a good idea, I'll do a few test runs first, thank you!!
