Learning to self soothe?

My LB is almost 6 months and usually fed to sleep but the last two nights he’s stayed awake and practically rolls out of my arms and into the bed (we’ve co slept since regression). He then flips from one side to the other, reaches for my face and pulls on his hair. He will then fall asleep after about 15/20 mins of doing this. Sometimes I help by rubbing his back but sometimes I can tell he doesn’t like it 😂 is this him learning how to self soothe or something else like gas? 🤷🏼‍♀️

My wee one does a bit of this. But he will
He feeding to sleep then roll away in a rather dramatic “I’m done with you” fashion, but then roll back 5 seconds later, and then repeat a few times… then he might rub his wee head on the mattress for a bit or rub his ear. Like you I will try and soothe by rubbing his back but it’s like he finds it irritating 😂

Mine does the same except she pulls on my hair! She falls asleep once she has a chunk of it in her hand 😂

omg my daughter does this too! So annoying I think great, I'm finally free to move a bit but she wants to come back seconds later 🤦‍♀️ I went for a wee when she stirred the other night.. Came back and she'd rolled onto her front and gone back to sleep which she's NEVER done independently. Annoying thing is I couldn't leave her to sleep because she kept face planting the mattress and I don't think it's safe on our bed, especially as she seems to have forgotten how to roll back too. They're so odd sometimes aren't they 😂

the exact same thing happened to me the other night and I was trying to measure how far his wee nostrils were from the mattress… he looked so comfy I didn’t want to move him but my anxiety got the better of me and I flipped him over, obvs he woke up! Do you always sleep in the c position still?

Avatar

I was doing the exact same too 😂😂 so funny when you read someone else is having the same experiences. Yes pretty much we sleep in the c position, but my hips hurt sometimes so if I can manage to roll onto my back without waking her I do! I'm a very light sleeper and she's noisy when she stirs so it's been fine. She also only really rolls one way in bed so I always lie the same side! Hoping to get her into her own room soon as she feeds hourly overnight most nights since November and it's taking its toll a bit.. Hoping when she can't smell me she won't stir as c often! Can't see how we'll ever get to that point though! X

we are the exact same! And my left hip is bloody agony in the morning, considered putting my mattress topper back on my bed but again had too much anxiety that it’s too squishy for Arie 😂 I’m a light sleeper too and so is my wee one and I’m wondering if I’m actually waking him up when I’m wriggling about through the night. I honestly fantasise about how good it would feel to lie on my other side for an hour 😳 We are hourly feeds at the moment and I genuinely don’t know how people cope with hourly feeds if they don’t bed share, I think I’d collapse. I was wondering too about maybe me wee one waking smelling the milk. Because sometimes at the start of the night I’ll get his dad to have him in the baby carrier for a couple of hours so I can do stuff and he will sleep absolutely fine with him 😳 it’s a difficult one… x

I feel you all with the hip pain! I managed to get some sleep on my back last night and felt luxurious 😂 we were on hourly wakings for weeks and then the last 3 nights he’s only woken up twice…not sure what’s going on 😂 I of course wake up more and just stare at him waiting for him to wake up 😂 we are transitioning into his cot this week (still in our room) so wish me luck! 🤞🏻

to be honest we still have the mattress topper on that we bought when I was pregnant - never planned on bedsharing and haven't really given it a thought actually! But I think I'd feel the same about adding one as that would change what baby is used to wouldn't it. Totally agree - wouldn't be able to cope without the bedsharing at the moment! That being said, I think Mabel wakes out of habit now and needs help to settle between every sleep cycle because that's just what she's got used to. I think with some work and determination we could change things but it would be upsetting for us both and that's what I'm struggling with at the moment. They defo settle better for the dads I've found the same 😂 x

Vanilla extract

Has anyone used alcohol free vanilla in their babies formal to help them drink?
I’m 100% sure my baby refuses her bottles as she doesn’t like the taste of it!

Just anxious to try it, don’t want her to get used to it and then refuse bottles again after two weeks of using (correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve read you use it for 2 weeks max)

TIA 🙂

Car seat crying

My 6 month old PANICS the second I put him in a car seat and screams, cries, chokes and recently even projectile vomited on a 14 minute drive. It’s gotten to the point I don’t even bring him out unless it’s to a doctors appointment. I’m a stay at home mom with no family in my state and it has been very isolating. We’ve tried 3 different car seats with no improvement. Has anyone had a baby who hated the car seat? Any advice? This started at 3 months. I will add it does seem worse when he’s tired. He does cry on every trip though. He only contact naps and co sleeps so he reaches for me and will not sleep in the car seat.

Sex post C section

Hi ladies I’m 4 weeks 5 days postpartum and I had a C section. I’m not bleeding properly anymore just some brownish discharge stuff that starts on and off. I’d like to do the deed with my partner; is it okay to do so or shall I wait the full 6 weeks. I feel up for it but also worried because the advice is 6-8 weeks.

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.
