My husband and I are probably kidding ourselves, but we want to try him cooking as normal once baby is here, rather than doing lots of frozen food in advance. Is this a pipe dream?! š

If heās the one cooking then it should be a breeze for him and if you do the cooking then it might be challenging but youāll be able to.
Babies usually cling to mom the most when they are newborns and I was able to cook normal mealsā¦bit harder because he was always on me & wanted to nurse a lot.

Batch cooking and freezing was a life saver for us otherwise we would have had to live on ready meals for quite a while. It was a two person job looking after a newborn. If your husband is quick in the kitchen then maybe but my husband takes too long to cook a proper meal! Definitely recommend having back ups in the freezer for when youāve had a tough day at least!

It is possible, my husband was able to cook as normal once our daughter arrived.

Definitely not unrealistic unless your husband isn't willing to try. Start small. Crazy busy mama has lots of great simple recipes, especially if your husband doesn't know how to cook.

Itās possible but not if youāre exclusively BF and expected to do some of the cooking and chores too⦠My husband and I kinda still cook like before (we have a 4w old girl) but the baby is 100% formula fed so we can both feed her and take turns. Having some ready made stuff in the freezer is also super helpful tho, in hindsight I wish I had batch cooked during pregnancy. The stuff we cook now is defo simpler and tbh Iām sick and tired of having sandwiches for lunch as thereās never any time to make other stuff then. 𤣠Xx

We wish we had been more prepared! We were so tired in the beginning neither of us had the energy to put anything together so mostly lived off beans on toast. I wish I had done some batch cooking before hand

Do a combo of both - my friend said it was so hard to cook just a pound of ground beef after her 3rd and she was right. Weāve got a few meals prepared but not as many as we had for our first or second baby

Deffo not unrealistic. One person cooks other looks after the baby, you might wanna batch cook some stuff in case your are tired and canāt be bothered š

We just simplified our meals. We didnāt want frozen food or to decide too far in advance.
Our start was stir fry, quesadillas, wings and fries, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and then he made a big batch of carne asada tacos that we were able to eat for three meals. Oh and of course fettuccini Alfredo and spaghetti. It wasnāt the healthiest but we wanted fresh comforting food.
We also ordered a few meals for my cravings like sushi and Indian food.

Could be šš
. Good luck !
Have him cook a few times beforehand so heās not totally lost !! Lol

For us freezing saved sooooo much time and headache but we also had a toddler at the time.

slow cooker and bath cooking and freezing

It's not unrealistic. I exclusively breastfeed and I'm the one who cooks. And it's been fine. Whenever I need to cook, I either put my son on his activity mat or hand him to his dad. It's okay for your baby to not be on you 24/7. I find it's better when he has his time off me because when I get him back he just wants to feed and go to sleep. And I get time with a baby not on me.
So just take it day by day and see what your babies temperament is. But yeah, cooking time for me is usually dad/baby bonding time for them.

I plan on making a bunch of crock pot meals and freezing them. So either my husband or I can dump them and set for the day!

Totally possible! My husband does the majority of cooking and has continued. We do more prep on weekends and eat the same meal for a couple meals in the week since we have busy evenings after he gets home from work.

I donāt think itās unrealistic! Could be useful to have some alternative options for days that are pretty testing but shouldnāt be an issue as far as I can see :)! The only thing you might find is that baby has witching hour (or hours in lots of cases) in the evening around dinner time so you might want the extra pair of hands from him at times as that can be quite overwhelming! But this all depends on the baby! X

Realistic - my husband meal prepped for our dinners in one batch to last us from mon-Fri. We just keep lunch simple and healthy. Whilst he did that I watched over our baby.

Not unrealistic at all. I invested in an instant pot and we got really excited about trying new types of simple meals. Made life so much easier

instant pot is the best. And air fryers. Both of these things have made cooking so much faster and easier because you donāt have to supervise them as much. Great suggestion.

Itās doable. My husband and I cook fresh, healthy meals almost every evening.

Try a meal delivery kit. We do Everyplate - the meals you choose, the ingredients get delivered, and you just need fridge and freezer space to store it. 10mins of prep, 30-40mins of cooking, and dinner is served, every day šš¼ so easy.
Slow cooking is another option, I use my Dutch oven, shove everything in it and let it cook in the oven for 3-4hrs on low. Then make a mash or some sautĆ©ed veggies and serve. Slow cook meals can usually be eaten the next day, cook up some pasta and stir it through the leftover sauce/meat, you have a whole ānother meal to eat.

No. We did. My husband cooked while I snuggled with our daughter and recovered from my emergency C-section 2 days before. Definitely possible.

Thanks everyone! Got some great ideas and perspectives here! š©·
