Please can anyone advice.
I've been given a date for my section (next week) due to past trauma and I'm terrified. Today, I've been for a scan, see Dr's, etc. And they have given me some syringes and told me to start expressing to get some colostrum.
My question/worry is - I'm worried if I do this, it will induce labour (which i want to avoid due to risks). Has anyone else done this? What was your experience?
Also, in the appointment they said I could use a breast pump but in the leaflet, it has no mention of this.
Please can anyone advise?
Many thanks.

I think the chances of it causing labour are very low, and if you do start to feel any contractions to stop for a little while. I believe a pump will lessen the chances of labour as it doesn't release hormones as effectively? I could be wrong, but that's why I've been advised no pumping only direct feeding for the first few weeks after birth, so perhaps it is the same for colostrum?

I've been hand expressing since 35 weeks, I'm now 37+2 and haven't gone into labour yet! Unfortunately lol
I don't think a pump would work, I have a massive over supply and a pump wouldn't get anything x

Pumps don’t generally work for colostrum. It’s thicker than proper milk and will likely be in very small amounts to start

From what I’ve read it’s very unlikely to cause preterm labour, I’ve been hand expressing since 36 weeks and haven’t had any labour signs yet! Unfortunately ! I’m definitely ready for baby to come now. Can you give it a go without the pump first?
