Nursery expectations?

So my 2.5 year old is at nursery 15 hours a week. A couple weeks ago my partner went to pick her up, they children were playing in the playground (which is fenced off but you can see in when you walk up to reception) He saw that our LO was crying and another child was being told to apologise. When the staff bought her out they didn't mention the incident but LO told her dad my 'leg hurts, my friend kicked me' So he bought it up to the staff and he said they tried to brush it off. He wasn't happy with their attitude so had words with them. Later that evening the nursery manager called us to say they checked the cameras and the boy had pushed LO over and she assured us that nursery staff had dealt with the issue accordingly.
She was at nursery yesterday and when she came home I noticed the top of her lip was a bit red. I put it down to maybe her lips are dry. But as you can see in picture today it's become a scab on her lips and nose. I feel like she must have fallen on her face and I'm sure she would have cried. My question is should I expect staff to notice this and report it to parents? Or is it normal for them not to notice a child getting hurt and / or not relaying it back to parents?

Our LO is in nursery, and they ring us straight away if there is an incident/accident, and we also get a letter with all the information about the incident too. I feel like nursery staff should be reporting stuff like this, as you are trusting them to look after your LO

If it was me I would change nurseries, the ladies are right about the incident being reported to you, it’s not nice for you not to be informed and supposing something more serious happened like a busted lip or sexual assault, would they even tell you?

Your child is the most important in the world, but they don’t seem to care.

Nope, change nursery. Once okay, twice no.
My niece had a similar thing in one nursery and I learnt so much from that. It put her far back in social interactions. The way the nursery dealt with a serious incident was terrible, and it was only due to my sister discovering the bruises on her back did they confessed to a few incidents happening with one particular child.
She moved nursery and that nursery was fantastic, supportive, and my sister was given daily updates. They even worked hard on building my niece's confidence again.
Personally as someone who has coached children in martial arts for years, where incidents are common, even if the smallest incident, everything is reported to the parent. Just because we as adults deem it as small it could be the biggest thing to that child. I had a really serious approach to this and it translated into having a very high retention rate.

Does your baby have a little cold or anything? The nose and lip doesn’t look like an injury she’d get at school. I get being upset at how they tried to sweep the first incident under the rug, specially since your husband asked about it. I think a lot of times they don’t notice when something happens because they can’t have eyes on every child every second.

When my daughter fell at daycare (when she first started walking), they told us when we picked her up since it wasn’t serious. We also had to sign an incident report. I expect them to tell me if anything has happened and I’m confident that they would. Your child’s daycare should be telling you…

Avatar

Pretty sh*tty the way the nursery doesn't want to deal with something serious

Avatar

Not acceptable

We get a phone call and then I have to sign an incident report they have written up at the end of the day.

This incident was a) an injury to your child and b) another child being aggressive

Two issues here that need dealing with

I wouldn’t be happy - talk to the nursery

Avatar

If they're wiping her nose bc she's runny could explain the appearance of the marks and places. Really doesn't look abusive to me. Rather dry and abrasive from excessive nose wiping

Avatar

My lo nursery tells me about every little thing when I pick them up I get a call though if they hit their head

Avatar

If it was me I would be taking her straight out of there I would be worrying about her the whole time and no way I would beable 2 trust them again after that if anything happens at my daughters nursery I get an email with all details of what’s happened and a phone call x

Avatar

My son got scratched in nursery and they didn’t relay it back to me. I was irritated a few days after they made me sign the incident report. I said you should have called my emergency number if I wasn’t available hence why I have two.
They didn’t bother they just said oh we don’t have time for that and due to safeguarding we don’t keep documents in the room.
I said I understand but the manager can call on your behalf I was so angry.
Since then lucky nothing has happened again.
So now I take a picture of my son everyday before I send him to nursery

All incidents should be recorded and the parents informed no matter how small , the nursery is in the wrong for not doing this

@MJ_xo @Sarah
She is fine she doesn't have a cold. And nothing has happened at home causing this.

Avatar

@Louise you are spot on when you say just because we deem something small doesn't mean it's also small to the child. It could really upset and have an effect on the child!

I know that nursery staff can't have their eyes on all children all the time, but if a child has had a fall / tumble and become upset it's concerning if they don't notice that. Also I would like to think that my girl is comfortable and feels secure enough to approach staff / her key worker to tell them that she's hurt herself. My LO is very vocal she talks loads for her age so there shouldn't be a communication issue either.
Either way I am now feeling uneasy about this nursery and have already started looking at alternative nurseries. Hopefully I can find a suitable one that doesn't have too long of a waiting list!

Avatar

They should always tell you on pick up of anything that's happened on the day I mean I don't expect a call for every little thing that happens during the day with my LO I'd be always getting calls she's so accident prone let alone with the other kids but I do expect to be told when I collect her about anything that's hurt her but then again our nursery does that like on my previous message I get calls is its head related but if its other bits I just get told when I'm picking up which is fine asking as I'm told x

I've finally done it

I have finally done it. I have finally become the trope, the stereotype.

I have become bitter, resentful, and very overwhelmed and overloaded. I am very unhappy and hit burnout. And I snapped at my husband last night. I work full-time, and work has been very busy so im working late a lot. Im also in grad school. I also have a toddler that has become VERY clingy with me. My husband works shorter days but commutes, so he usually gets home after me by an hour or more. When he gets home, he usually heads to the restroom for at least 30 mins when he gets home. And now my toddler doesnt want anything to do with him. So im doing all the toddler duties until bed. I dont get 5 mins to myself. Not for almost 2 years. I finally hit my wall. I have also, somehow, become my MILs medical ride service and she somehow has an appt every week, it seems?! Shes not sick!! My husband was complaining that he needs to change routine to fit in a workout sometimes, and I lost it. I have been BEGGING for 5 mins to myself for months. I have been telling him how im not good, im going to burn out for months. And between his attitude and him complaining (which really got me b/c he blames me for not being able to work out?! Saying I need help when he gets home so he just cant workout now) I just lost it completely. I told him how unfair my life has become and I have the entire mental and emotional load and it is just not fair. He got mad at me and said "hes trying" when hes literally not trying at all. What do I do?? No one is taking the load from me! And im done and dont know what to do now.
I do not like this version of me.

AITA?

This isn't a major issue, just wondering if I'm being a bit of an asshole.

• I do shift work, 5 out of 7 days, full-time.
• My partner works from home (mostly, sometimes he goes into the office) M-F, full-time.

Anyway, whenever I have a day off during the week he gets in his feelings when I make myself food (breakfast and lunch) but not him. His reason is he's working, I'm not - Which is fair but I've asked him how many times on a weekend has he gotten up, on his day off and made me breakfast and a lunch to take with me to work? You guessed it, 0.

So basically, just because I'm at home I don't think the responsibility to feed him should automatically fall on me when he manages to feed himself just fine while I'm at work.

Big vent!

Hi mums.
I'm a first time mum in my 40s to twin boys. They are almost 5 months old and the biggest miracle in my life!
I am struggling!!!
I'm pretty sure I have ppa as my pregnancy was a very high risk and all I remember was crying from anxiety of all the ifs!Thankfully even born at 35 weeks and skinny, didn't need iu time.
My husband is not helping much because he's always too busy with work.He will "look" after them usually between 8pm-12am so I can have a chance to sleep.
He expects me to just sleep when I touch the pillow, even though I hear tje babies crying and him don't really bother because most of the times he'll be on his laptop working.
When I tell him I can't relax to fall asleep because I feel you r neglecting the babies,he says I'm the problem becauae I'm always there with them and don't give them alone time!!
I am angry!!I am furious!!
I can't keep.up.with housework becauae someone alwaya neess me and most of the times they nap I either cook and clean tje kitchen,do laundry or try and take a quick nap.
He doesn't help.around the house,becauae..guess what?always super busy.
I asked him nicely we could clean the house together every Saturday morning so it's easier and quicker for both of us and he said no,because he has a lot of work but probably wants to sleep until 12 or 2.
2 days ago a button of his coat ripped and I told him I'll sew it these days.
Earlier this morning while running late for his work,as always,he weara the coat and told him didn't get the chance to fix the button and sarcastically said..of.course u didn't!!!
I spent all night awake because one of the babies had congested nose and we've been trying to reduce one fees at night.
I wanted to punch him!!He left and I started crying...I cry so much, even at 5 months pp...
I can't go on like this anymoreeeee...
The crying in my ears is constant..my head is always numb..I've gained so much weight and can't find the strength to get back on track..
Even if I try to.find a therapist to just talk,is it gonna help?I really don't know😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Avoidant husband

I love my husband and he is a good man. We have some issues in our relationship however, as he has an avoidant attachment style (finds romance/intimacy/being emotional difficult). This comes from him having to be independent from a young age and having quite an abusive mother.
The issues in our relationship are mainly around a lack of sex and intimacy. I think the problem is that to feel turned on, I need to feel connected and wanted. My husband (being avoidant) will usually make jokes about being horny whereas I would want to have someone make me feel beautiful/sexy to get in the mood.
It sounds terrible but I've sometimes had dreams about exes that would make me feel this way, and the romance we had (eye contact, intensity, deep words). It makes me feel really guilty but I feel like i'm starved of that. My husband would like a lot more sex but I can't always force myself if I'm not feeling it.
We've spoken a bit about therapy but I know its often really expensive so we probably wouldn't be able to afford it. Do you have any suggestions please? I know that neither of us are wrong in what we want, just different but I'm scared about whether we can fix it or if we're doomed?

Toddler snacks in the morning ?

Hey.

My 14m is clearly going through a growth spurt. He’s a fussy eater but recently started having two breakfasts with the childminder and that’s even after milk in the morning.

He wakes at 6am and we leave around 7:05am. Has 6oz when he wakes but then is seemly hungry looking for snacks before we leave. The only issue is, he’s a fussy eater and won’t sit and eat fruit etc so struggling to think what I can give him that’s suitable.

Any fussy eater suitable ideas of what I can make or get him to snack on whilst we finish getting ready to get out the door?
