hypothetical, i’ve always wondered: how does it work for exclusively breastfeeding moms that have 2 under 2/are still nursing one baby when another comes along? how does that work for the second baby to get colostrum if you’re already producing milk for the first baby? would you have to pump and store for the end of your pregnancy so you stop producing for a bit or?

Lol I actually am 7 weeks pregnant with a 9 mo. I'm like 99% certain my milk is gunna dry up in a couple months so I've been wondering if I should pump or try to wean off baby when she hits 12 months, so many questions I should probably have a plan Dx

From what I understand the body will produce for the unborn child now so milk for toddler will dry up by or during second trimester of pregnancy. Then either nothing comes or colostrum comes. The toddler may wean if nothing comes or some people let toddlers dry suck for that many months The toddler may drink the colostrum or refuse and then may relatch when milk comes in after birth but the milk will be adjusted for the newborn not the toddler in terms of calories.
Tandem feeding seems like incredibly hard work, even just physiologically it's asking a lot of your body, I doubt I could do it.

To make another point, maybe you could put the toddler more on bottle milk, and breastfeed sometimes, and then baby exclusively on the breast, to make things easier for yourself, and more manageable.

Your baby may naturally wean as your milk transitions back to colostrum. However many toddlers still stay at the breast as they still get the comfort and while it's not their milk anymore it still is something for them to drink. There's also been families that had them wean and see their sibling nurse and want to do it again. It really depends on you (sensitive nipples can come back!) and your child for what will happen ☺️
