Speech

Anyone else’s little ones still not really talking as much? My 26 month old boy can only say around 10 words. He’s confident with the words dodo (dummy), milk, ball, bye and uses them regularly, the rest is hit and miss. I’ve contacted health visitor for speech therapy referral.

How can I bring his speech on, what activities can I do or can anyone recommend any good educational toys? I try my best to read books and repeat words to him, however he doesn’t stay in one place for long for me to finish a book 😣

28 months no words . Dont worry at all. Its normal for boys! Plus until 3 nothing to worry about.
I find it surprising as so many ask same but my circle of parents with boys- all spoke late and its ok :)

My daughter says very little. She says 1 sentence and a few words. My middle child didn't talk at all until she went to school. They started a speech and language referral but she just started talking and never shut up since 😂

26 months and non verbal still, but does have some cards to communicate with. Just keep doing what you're doing, as long as they have the ability to say words speech therapy isn't really useful, it's more kids who are non verbal and have no receptive understanding of verbal communication.

Nearly 24 months mostly non verbal started saying words young and regressed, he’s very clear with mum (won’t say when asked🤦🏼‍♀️) dada, said bubble the other day but not since, yes and no have become clearer, can say bye/hiya but both sound so similar when he says it 😂 and that’s about it. From others it seems normal but my eldest was very different xxx

My son is being referred as they think he has glue ear and that’s why he isn’t really talking although he says mumma (a million times a day) hi ya, ok, uh oh, ooooh, dadda, but he signs as well from watching mr tumble and miss Rachel on repeat so he can sign more, friends, thank you, just started doing please xx

We’re the same! It’s started to increase over the last few weeks so I’m not concerned! He’s always concentrated on physical stuff rather than verbal!

Avatar

thank you for the reassurance, I really hope his speech comes along soon

what age did your middle child start talking and did you have any other concerns? Did you feel nursery/school helped with their speech x

Avatar

thank you, yes I’ve heard from a few people that speech therapy doesn’t really help much, I’m going to carry on repeating words, reading etc. Hope all goes well with your little one x

Avatar

that reminds me of my son, he was saying quite a few words when he was around 16m but it just stopped, these past few weeks he’s started to say a few words, some in context and the rest is gibberish lol, I hope your little ones speech comes along soon xx

When she started school so would have been about 3.5 years. They started the referral as I told them she never spoke. But she just started out of the blue as soon as she started school. No help or anything x

what made them think he has glue ear and how do they check if it is? I suspected that my little boy might have it too, my lb loves mrs Rachel too, he’s learnt so much from her! xx

Avatar

aww that’s so good that your little ones speech has increased over the past few weeks! My lb concentrated on the physical stuff too, he loves running climbing jumping! Xx

Avatar

Yes my boy is great at running and jumping and climbing! He’s never repeated words back to us like a lot of other children do and likes to do things on his own terms 😂

Avatar

I had it when I was a child and he has zero balance and is forever falling over lol it might not be but he is waiting to go to the hospital and see the ENT doctor he babbles away in his own way but he is getting frustrated now that he has so much he wants to say but can’t and he signs now which helps x

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Rant/WWYD

My sister (youngest, 24) has two kids, 4 & 1, and i (oldest, 30) just have my one who’s 6mo old right now, so i ask her for advice or call her to vent about things sometimes. Well im tired of her turning around and telling my other family members that I’m “losing my sh*t.” Literally have not lost my sh*t nor have i ever freaked out to her about my baby, i just call her to talk and tell her what stage my baby is in or talk through how im feeling, but she chooses to tell people that im like a complete nutcase or something which worries me that my family is going to start being judgmental about me as a mother or looking at me funny like I’m some fragile ticking time bomb.

What would you do in this situation? I’m already pretty much decided that I’ll stop telling her anything about my struggles, but I’m almost at the point where i feel like it should be confronted because she, of all people, should understand what I’m going through.

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!

Rapid cool/ hot shot method

Sorry if this sound stupid but how are we doing the hot shot method?
Are we boiling the kettle and letting it cool a little before adding to hot flask? Then with the cool water do you boil the kettle and leave it to cool right down before putting into another flask?
My baby brain is fried trying to work out the easiest way!
