So I'm 5 weeks pregnant and my husband wanted to tell our toddler, fine. But then he explained the baby is in my tummy and when it is grown I will poop it out 🙈😂 This morning I was talking to my toddler and I think she was asking to see it then I said it needs to grow first. "Then you will poop it out" 😂
I do find it funny and see where he was going with this but I'd rather find a better way to explain. Any ideas?

No advice but congratulations! 💕 So happy for you xx

Just say how it happens. I still remember my dad explaining conception to me as a child as ‘the man passed a little fish to the mummy in bed’ he meant sperm but I found it really confusing for ages and I remember picturing a goldfish in my parents bed 😂

Congratulations. This actually made me laugh, this is a typical man's way of explaining things to a child 🤣 😂 but I get it I'm not actually sure how I'd explain it as I wouldn't want her thinking a baby would come out of her vagina haha I'd probably say something like mammy has a baby in her belly and when it starts to grow really big mummy will go to the doctors and they will take the baby out then the baby will come home with us and we will take care of it.... something along those lines, im sure my LO would ask lots of questions

The book ‘there’s a house in mummy’s tummy’ or something to that affect, has really helped my little boy.
We waited until a lot further along though, 20+ weeks, a) to make sure everything was ok and avoid further upset/confusion and b) because 9 months of their little lives is sooo long to wait - particularly when they can’t see a bump growing.
Congratulations ☺️

yes I didn't think about that really he just asked if he could tell her when we were having dinner. Maybe we'll just lay off talking about it for a while.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, very helpful.

My 2 year old I don’t think understood before my newborn arrived. I wouldn’t worry about explaining it.

do whatever is right for your family. Congrats again x

My two year old loved reading there is a house in mummy’s tummy. He would kiss my tummy and chat to the baby (when my bump was big)

My eldest was 18 months when I found out and she didn’t really understand so I didn’t start explaining until she turned 2 (I was due 2 months after). She understood her baby sissy was in my belly but still didn’t get the full concept of that makes sense. I also never told her where baby comes out from, she never asked so I felt like I didn’t need to tell her🤣x
