I just got back from my 20 week scan and they booked me for growth scans at 28 and 36 weeks. Is this the norm in the UK?
I read online that you usually get them if they’re concerned about baby’s size. Mine has measurements between 75-85th% so I’m not sure if they booked me because he’s on the large side or just because it’s routine.

It can be for a number of reasons I have scans every 2 weeks from 28weeks due to previous history. But they’ll get more frequent if any problems occur x

I am also going threw the same but that's due to me having a still born and multiple miscarriages before falling with my little girl this time but I have more regular checks it's normal I'd say xx

is that right? I thought 20 was the last one and I’ve been panicking about not having anymore after that.

It's for a variety of reasons. I'm having a 28 week scan so they can check blood flow to the placenta because of low papp a

Absolutely normal. In my notes it says that 1st time mothers would have 3 extra visits than second or more mothers So that is their process

Not everyone gets them no but they are more free with them at the moment and lots of people are having them due to a variety of reasons. I am having 3 extra scans due to previous history. And the 3 extra visits for FTM's are midwife appointments not scans just so people know.

I had them last time as they thought I was having a big baby, purely on the fact I have a high bmi, my son was 6lb 12! This time around I'm having them for a high bmi, because I have an ovarian cyst and because my son was actually a 'small baby'. So I have my 20 week scan in 6 days, and then a scan at 27 weeks and I think from there they will decide how frequent I have them, usually around 2 weeks apart from what I remember

I'm having extra at 32 and 36 weeks, due to an issue with my last pregnancy. Firs time mom's also get one at 32 and 36 x

I'm having growth scans due to geststional diabetes. Have one at 28, 32 and 36wks

It's not typical, usually only if you have some sort of medical history. But maybe your trust has more freedom than others.

I'm a high BMI and I'm having them every 4 weeks from 28 weeks

I had this as my first born was full term but still 4.3lb due to stress. So they have to maintain babies weight and monitor growth

I've got growth scans every 4 weeks due to multiple losses :)

My first I just had 2 scans 12 & 20. With my 2nd I have a growth scan at 32 weeks due to medical history. Even though it was the same with my first I didn’t get offered an extra scan 😂🙃 covid era so was a little different.
They should be able to tell you them though if you ask x

I’m fist mom too and after the 20 week scan I asked if I’ll have more and she said no, but i can request with my midwife in the 3 trimester if I’m concerned about anything.

I’m a first time mum and don’t get one at 32 and 36, I was told my last one would be at 20 weeks x

Thanks everyone! I did ask the sonographer why I’m getting more scans and she brushed it off, saying they’re just growth scans, probably so I don’t think that there are any concerns. She was very casual about it so that’s why I wasn’t sure what to think and I didn’t insist, but after reading all the comments it does sound like being in the high percentiles is probably the reason

I will have one more at 32 weeks, because my placenta is still lower than it should be and one at 36 weeks, because of my age (40).

standard is still 2

I have my 20 weeks scan in 5 days but have another booked at 27 weeks due to a high BMI

I’ve been booked growth scans because I had Covid during pregnancy

It definitely depends on the hospital. All the policies seem to be so different for how many you get
