Baby weaning

My baby girl is 16 weeks old tomorrow. She is showing so much interest in food and not much in her bottles at the moment. She is so ready for weaning but just can’t sit on her own at the moment, do you think I can start with porridge or rusks?
Every time I eat, she watches me opening her mouth thinking she’s getting some, she also cries when the food has gone, she uses both hands and bring things to her mouth 😂 any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No, definitely not ready. Wait until 6 months (that’s in months, not weeks). Waiting is key to prevent choking, and to ensure their gut is mature enough for solids. When you do start, offer veggies first. It gets them used to bitter flavours before porridge etc

16 weeks is really way too early and you run the risk of giving her gut issues that could affect her later in life. Babies tend to go through a stage of being distracted when feeding at this age- feeding them at home or in a dark room can help. I really would hold off on food for much longer even if you don’t go right up to 6 months.

rusks are absoloutely full of sugar too so a really bad first food to give. as exciting as it seems that she’s starting to show signs, she’s 16 weeks old, way too early to wean unfortunately. x

I advise doing your own research, I have and I am starting my little girl next week (17weeks) on puree vegetables

I’m so happy i did my own reading and not just listened to folk!

This really helped explain to me

Your welcome, I’ve also bought the Ella’s kitchen recipe book, the purple one as it is full of puree recipie, and a really insightful section on the first two weeks and going slowly slowly. X x

this does just back up the idea they need to be showing all the signs of readiness. The biggest one that usually comes around 6 months is being able to sit unaided to help prevent choking (the risk is there for purées too). Not saying it’s the case here but a lot of people think purées are ‘safer’ than blw and can start earlier which isn’t the case

Absolutely not - unless advised under medical reasons this is a no. It doesn’t matter than you think they are ready, their insides are not developed enough to digest food
I started on porridge at 4 months as my son had an extreme case of reflux and was advised by doctors this wouldn’t subside until I started weaning. Please also bare in mind at that age they do not eat to be full they are just tasting things for a long long time. Please don’t damage your child’s digestive system because they’re looking and showing interest. They look and show interest in everything as they have never seen anything before

this just reinforces advice to wait until 6 months if you read it properly.
OP, interest in food isn’t a proper checklist for weaning- it’s more about motor skills, sitting positioning and ability be fed safely. My baby shows interest in me putting on makeup, doesn’t mean it’s time to put makeup on him 😂

We started with our son at 17 weeks but he wasn't ready. You can try because the worst that can happen is them vomiting and refusing the food. We tried again at 5 months and he has successfully eaten solids since then (now 6 months).

About sitting, there are babies who don't sit until 8/9 months so that's not really a sign they are ready for weaning. They do need good head support and the ability to grab things though

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Saying NO to buying toys etc

5 year old is getting really envious of others. He is obsessed with items that other kids have at school. I am pestered daily to buy these things in a different style when we already have 3 others. I have seen parents just buying stuff their kid likes which I don't necessarily agree with even when i can afford it. How do you deal with it?

Identity crisis?

Am I the only sahm who feels like they have lost their identity??? I don’t make money for my family, when I used to make great money. But I refuse to drop my under a year old baby off with strangers.
My husband works so much. But I have no control over bringing in money and I’m a control freak type of person! I feel l like I’m losing my grip because we are kind of broke, but day care would only eat up my income anyways! So what’s the point. I’m a workaholic and now I’m just a twitching bum.
I wish I could work from home but so far that’s a fake dream. I’m almost 9 months pp, and I just need to know these awful mood swings and depression will end soon! Send wine!

Daycare?

Thoughts on daycare?? Truly, I am SCARED to be leaving my kid for daycare. I literally do not trust anyone, not even family (they haven’t given me a reason it’s just trust issues on my end, you never know). He’s turning 3 and I’ve been a sahm the whole time but tbh my man doesn’t make enough for us to move out somewhere more calm . We live in a ‘not so safe’ area in LA and I’m just not used to living here so I just want us to give my son a better life and in order to speed up the process I would have to work.. I do lashes at home and I’d be open to take new clients so I wouldn’t have to look for work but I’m just scared to lose my license 😭
