Title basically says it all. I'm wondering when y'all decided to start back up at the gym or in a disciplined ashtanga yoga practice. I'm currently between 2-3 weeks post pregnancy, and I'm already getting on edge with my body not looking the way I want it. š I'm trying to give myself grace, but I'm feeling ready to start taking 1hr sessions to myself at the gym - I just also have no idea where I should start or how "hard" to go. Maybe I just start with walks, or maybe I start with light weights.. I'm not sure when I'll feel ready for a 90-minute hot room series, but I would love to hear opinions on what yall ladies have done and if it's been beneficial or damaging to healing your body physically and mentally after pregnancy.

I also don't want to damage or decrease my milk supply *

I started 30 mins walking on the treadmill 5 weeks PP, I got cleared the next week and started doing light mat pilates, I quickly realized that I have no core since the pregnancy. I started slow 2x for three weeks. I feel so much better around my core that I signed up for orange theory itās full body workout but only doing it 2x a week. To me it helps with my mental health and getting to do something for myself since the baby needs us the other 23 hours. But give yourself grace, I see working out as an outlet and I try not to be so consumed on how my body changed. It will all come back in due time but enjoy the process in the meantime.

Ugh Iām 6 months pp and have only been able to fit a few workouts in so far. Definitely not happy with the way my body looks but I know this is a season and someday I will have time to workout the way I want to again. I try to at least do a daily walk with my babes and some core and arm exercises while they nap, but it is not perfect and definitely not where I want to be.

Iām nearly 5 weeks postpartum and havenāt started āworking outā yet. Just going for walks and increasing the amount of time. And some core strengthening - my core still feels very weak!
Once my core feels a bit more strong then I will increase the amount of strenuous workouts I do

5-6 ish weeks and started walking prior. Eased into it with pelvic floor PT and exercises then graduated to a formal fitness program catered to postpartum recovery then eventually added more and more as things felt comfortable

Yeah I wanna know too because I weightlift and uhm, gonna workout till I canāt no more then wanna get back in asap for the snap back!

I would base it on how you feel and what your Dr says. I jumped back into being active too early (5/6 weeks pp) and experienced some heavy bleeding and dizziness. I had to wait a bit longer to ease back into things.

4 weeks postpartum I started with my third and my second I started at 6 weeks pp.

12 weeks PP and BF mama here š«¶š¼ I started with taking my dogs on walks around the block at 2.5 weeks PP. I tried to respect the first 40-Days of postpartum and focused on healing. Slowly increased my steps.
At 2 months PP I started doing Pilates and some group workouts.
Now that Iām 12 weeks PP, the intensity has been amped up and Iām š¤š¼thiiiiis close in getting a gym membership again!
I would say focus on your core and abdomen area before trying to do any HIIT workouts or runs if youāre feeling ready! Itās hard to navigate the intensity level because one thinks they can do more than they need to at this sensitive time, so just take it really easy!! See how you feel the next day and go from there

I did walks and pelvic floor starting at 2 weeks post partum from a c section. I didnt start running or going to the gym until 7 weeks post partum.

6 weeks for weightlifting
12 weeks for running
Pelvic floor exercises three times a day every day from giving birth

Iām 4 wk PP and started doing breathing work for pelvic floor and stretching at 2 weeks PP. Very gentle and following Nancy Andersons Ab rehab program. My little gym upstairs has been a life saver since I know it will be difficult making it to the gym right now. My husband is very supportive of me working out but I still feel it easier to workout from home. Iāve been to the gym twice since giving birth just to get out and working out my upper body. Side note Iāve been lifting weights for over a decade so very comfortable with reading what is okay for my body.

6 weeks, the day my OB approved me to exercise. To give context, I worked out up until the day prior to giving birth. I am 14 weeks PP and am have to normal almost completely.

I wasnt able to seriously dedicate the time until i stopped breastfeeding and my ppd got better at 10 months pp

I did walks at about 4 weeks PP with episiotomy, didn't start lifting until about 10 weeks

I think when you work out your milk increases, I started 1 week postpartum with light weight , I wouldnāt go heavy if you have stitches

Definitely wait to fully work out until your 6 week check up. But walking before that can be great for recovery

Go slow for sure. My first pregnancy I tried to go for a run waaaay too soon and ended up tearing something in my hips. Yoga and Pilates is great to get your body moving again and bring some flexibility back. Itās not just about strength but the flexibility we lose after carrying all that weight in a new center of gravity.. itās like we need a rebalancing of sorts.
I started with yoga and Pilates at 6w pp. just started weights 2 weeks ago at 4m pp.

I started back at 4 weeks as I couldnāt just ādo nothingā, I started off with body weight movements for a week or so, then added resistant bands, then by week 6 I was back to weight training. I had a coach who was qualified in post natal fitness. So he guided me. BUT elastin is still very much present and I was constantly hurting myself by pulling things etc. I went too hard, too fast. I thought I felt ok to do so, I wasnāt. But this time round, itāll be different for me after. Iāve learnt my lesson š
But again, this is my own journey. Everyone is different

Thank you all for your responses. I loved reading through them!
For context, this is my third baby, and I didn't really start back in the gym after having my first two for nearly 2 years. I definitely struggled mentally and adjusting to motherhood full-time, but now I have such a good rhythm for mama life and I know working out helps me. I've always been extremely active! I continued at the gym until the day I went into labor, and now I'm getting restless. Sometimes, I overdo it. I won't have an OB check as I homebirth, and I'm not sure if I'll even meet with my midwife when the time comes, so I'll never really get "cleared" more than just self-clearance. I didn't have any complications, no tears, no stitches (waterbirth), and I've also already had days of zero bleeding.. but have recently started having brown blood which leads me to believe the bleeding is ending - I won't go until I'm done done done bleeding but my guess is that will be in the next week or so.
I just miss my abs and toned arms š

But yeah, I'm trying to also respect the "fourth trimester" and "40 day" thing this time because I seriously.. did not do that my first two babies and was visiting family, going on trips, and generally not taking enough time to myself to recover and restore my body. I've had zero visitors this time (besides parents and one close friend) and have been really focusing my nutrition and nourishing my body and ofc I've been doing PF, breath work and moderate stretching already at home but I'm just.. missing the gym, I guess. This has been my longest time away from the gym in over 3 years .. so I think mentally I'm feeling ready, but I just want to make sure I'm also physically allowing my body the time it needs to recover. I can be hard on myself.

My baby is 5 Days old and Iām already ready. I have to wait to be cleared by the doctor first of course š

I got back into a workout routine at 4 weeks postpartum. Now, it wasnāt a full blown Iām killing it at the gym beast mode. I was going through the motions as though I was in PT. Letās make small goals, atomic habitsā¦.that will get you to your ultimate goal. You got this momma.
