So I have a son with my step daughters dad . I’ve been in her life since she was 2 . She was always easy when she was younger and has always idolized her mom . Her mom had her at 17 and had a lot of growing up to do . I think now she’s realizing how her mom is and now they don’t get along . Her mom wants to put her in therapy and everyone always wants to tend to her needs which I understand . Problem is even prior to this everything was always about my step daughter because they felt she needed more help whether that be time, attention , money etc . To the point where my child is easily forgotten . I hate it . I feel like I’m purposely supporting the neglect of my child just to comfort another child who needs “help” regardless. I feel like I’m better off being a single parent so that way I’m not having to cater to the opinions of others . It makes me feel like a coward that I can’t stand up for my son .

Learn more about our guidelines. It seems like they see my husband doing fine so they always want to create an “urgent issue” that would take all his attention and time to the point where if he wanted to do anything with son it would “hurt daughter” . So then now it’s taking a mental toll on husband that he’s being pulled in diff directions. But I’ve just been telling him to go be present with his eldest because son and I are doing just fine , he distances himself so much out of guilt saying he doesn’t get to spend time with his eldest so he’s trying to be fair .
yea I usually just let him handle things then be of support when needed . I’ve explained my feelings before and nothings really changed . I understand he’s stuck in a hard place too . Her mom can be very manipulative. And I think step daughter has learned to play the cards where she’ll complain about dad to mom then mom to dad. Her mom has caught one and now wants her in therapy . I think a lot of it stems from her being extremely coddled . Her whole life things have always been done for her and now that she’s 12 and slowly being given responsibility she doesn’t want any part of it
