5 month old has started to grab at his penis

In the tub or during diaper changes, my baby will now grab at his penis. I don’t think it’s a big deal, he’s just discovering his body, right? Similar to how he grabs at his feet or any other body part. However, when my husband sees the baby doing it, he tells him to stop grabbing like it’s inappropriate behavior. Should I be discouraging the penis pulling or just continue to let it go?

It's normal

Avatar

Yes it’s perfectly normal. My son started doing this when he was 5 months old and stopped for a few months and is back doing it again (now 13 months). Absolutely normal behaviour for a baby whilst they are discovering their body

My lil one did the same thing around the same age if not a lil before tht but he doesn’t do it as mich now and he’s 9 months old . So I think it’s perfectly normal and them just figuring out their bodies

Avatar

My son does the same thing!! I always make sure i wipe his hands after diaper changes too because he will pull on it😅

Avatar

it’s completely normal and i can promise you’re husband did it when he was a baby too, my doctor actually encouraged it because we didnt circumcise and it helps baby pull back the skin himself without getting hurt!

Avatar

I only stop my 3 month old from doing it because he does a death grip and I keep thinking he's going to pull it off or do some damage 🫣

Avatar

Haha just wait until your toddler starts putting bubbles from the bath on his pee pee to make it bigger 😂

Totally normal

It's developmentally normal. We even say "Is that your penis dude?" I've always spoke through diaper changes and explained what I'm doing as well. It's very important that all children know their body parts and know that they're not shameful!

Avatar

this made me spit my water out🤣🤣

Avatar

It's normal. But gotta keep an eye on them as they tend to grab hard and pull 😭😂

That right there always makes me worry

Avatar

Normal! I explained to my boys at that age: “oh that’s your penis—it’s where your pee comes out”. So that they’d know what it’s for, and could use the right word before they could talk in the unlikely case anyone twisted ever got their hands on them (unlikely for us because no one watches my kids except for me and my husband so far).

Avatar

I do the same thing lol I thought it was just me and I was weird for doing tht lol

Avatar

LOL. My son is 2 and he does this still. It’s totally normal. It’s part of them they are trying to figure out what it’s for and when they realize they pee out of it trust me that’s when the fun starts 😝

Avatar

Yeah your husband needs to let it go haha it's super normal. No need to put adult ideas on little babies they are just grabbing everything

Avatar

Normal

Avatar

You're not going to stop it it's totally normal. Just wait until he's a toddler and constantly holding it lol

Avatar

It’s completely normal, I felt the same way. My son is 21 months, he pulls it out from his pull up’s and just squeezes it and sometimes potty that way. As women we just won’t quite understand it

Avatar

Totally not a big deal. Once they start finding more body parts, they will grab at them more same thing with toes and fingers. It’s just something that they see and all of a sudden want to play with. It doesn’t hurt them either. Mine grabbed very strongly at his one time, and I thought he was going to scream his head off, but surprisingly no nothing happened. It’s just a discovery thing for babies.

Avatar

Yea it’s normal they’ll stop and then they’ll get back into it as teenagers.

Totally normal, I always taught my son “gentle hands, we protect our no no squares! And he’s about to be 3 in May and he knows not to touch it or anything like that because of germs and safety. You can always redirect in a gentle and educational way, he’s 5 months he’s just a baby. Shouldn’t be looked at as inappropriate, babies don’t have sexual comprehension so that’s not the intent it’s just curiosity and discovery as that’s what babies around 5/6 months start doing! 🤎

Avatar

He has absolutely no idea what he’s doing at that age, he’s a tiny baby! They grab everything!

Avatar

I am pretty sure 5 month old babies cannot have inappropriate behaviours… 🙃

Avatar

My son 6 months grabs anything he can get his hands on he’s got no clue what he’s doing lol as a boy he’s going to have a life long fascination with it anyway lol

Avatar

your final comment 😂😂😂😂

hubby is 41 and he’s still obsessed with his, me not so much anymore as that’s how we ended up with the surprise baby boy lol he’s now booked in to be snipped no more surprises for us lol 😂

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
