Settling baby after a feed

My newborn won’t settle after feeds at night. She sleeps a 2/3 hour stretch then wakes up to feed but I can be up for 2-3 hours before she will settle again to sleep and that’s usually only for an hour before she’s unsettled again and up and down until the morning. I fell asleep by mistake with her on me feeding last night night so I’m just wondering is this normal at this stage or is there anything I can do to settle her more after a feed. Hoping as she gets older she will sleep another stretch for a few hours in the second half of the night otherwise I’m really going to struggle absolutely knackered today ! Any advice please

Don’t turn on lights not needed, only a very dim lamp just to be able to see. Don’t change nappy unless poop or very very full. Having baby in bedside bassinet I find is not a lot of steps for us being sleep deprived, but it’s also not any stimulation for the baby. I feed and change nappy (if needed) right there on the bed, I only get up to pee really. So basically as little stimulation/steps as possible. That’s worked for me, my baby falls asleep after every feed he’s never ever woken up for a feed and stayed up. Xx

I do that now tbh I don’t change her either unless really need to and only use red light no TV or phone light at night but still she just doesn’t want to seem to settle after she wakes up again. She next to me also in her Moses basket as wont settle in cot yet. If it’s working for you hopefully just continuing with it will work for me also 🤞 x

It could be nothing on your part either OP she could be teething or just growing through a growth spurt. Just keep doing what you’re doing it seems like you’re doing everything right in terms of not overstimulating the baby. So yeah good luck and, consistency is key xx let her know that night is night and there’s no talking/playing at all etc. I don’t even talk to my baby at night. Just do what I need to and the talk starts in the morning. But yeah good luck hun hopefully soon she can fall asleep quick for you 🤞🏼

Both my boys went through phases. It shall pass hopefully! I just tried to keep engagement to a minimum which it sounds like you are doing. Sometimes it’s a bit of trial and error to work out what works best for your baby.

My first responded well to rocking so if he didn’t settle we went out to lounge and rocked in the dark until he was asleep.

My second the rocking woke him up more as did me holding him, patting him etc. Patting worked during day but at night seemed to keep him awake. In the end I lay him down on the sofa next to me and just sat next to him and he went to sleep. He wanted to be close but all my attempts were interrupting him. So that’s what I did simply sat next to him (adding a hand placed still on his belly once he was old enough to roll). I found it really useful to have one spot we went to when they were unsettled (rocking armchair with first, sofa with second) as when they got older and were sick that place became an instant comfort place. Good luck!

How is the baby’s routine throughout day time? Is baby sleeping too much? Not being stimulated during the day?
This happened to me a few times at night and I changed daytime routine and naps. Maybe this will help. Nighttime I introduce a bath time routine (at 6 weeks old) at 8pm and it worked wonders. Little by little changing bath time earlier.

I interact with her a lot in the day when she’s awake and we like to keep it loud as I don’t want her to not be used to noise. Could maybe be lighter but it’s with this weather I feel it’s a bit dark in my living room most the time but I keep it as bright as I can. I have let her sleep when she wants as she 5 weeks so I got told to just let her sleep rather than wake her if she’s napping but I’m not sure when I can change that. She is awake quite a bit though but sleeps for a hour here and there in the day

She is 5 weeks That for me was normal when mine was that old. I did what you are doing and at night she wanted to hang out for hours. One night I told my husband please take her because I need at least 4 hrs of sleep.

That is why at 6 weeks I started the bath time routine.
Play time, bath at 8, fresh diaper and pjs, feeding and sleep. She went down around 9-11pm. I stay in my room with everything dark and thunderstorms sounds. She was waking up every 3 hrs and then 5 hrs and now 7 hrs. Another feed and back to sleep until 10 am.

ok so if I keep going with everything should settle down more I do the change and getting her into her sleeping bag with white noise on and complete darkness with just red light at night. I will try the bath more at 6 weeks she’s not enjoyed at bath so far so not done it much but hoping if I keep going she will improve soon! She sleeps from 9/10ish until 1am it’s just after that she still struggles 🥲

I feel your struggle. I do not do any light at all. Every baby is different. Routine, routine, routine is everything. I read a lot about sleep and a steady routine was always mentioned. Eventually she will know what it means. If she feeds very well during the day and multiple times mine sleeps better and longer. It will take time but it is worth it. By 8 weeks I was sleeping better. Mine is currently 10 weeks.
You are doing a great job momma. You got this.

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Hi ya'll

Is anyone else's 4 month old randomly screeching now? I'm not sure what to do and she's been doing this for the past two days. She's usually a quiet happy baby so im not sure why she's doing this now. Aby suggestions?

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.

Did I overreact?

I have had 3 c sections, recently had a wisdom teeth removal (4) to be exact and all my mom did was visit the day BEFORE and then she only sent 1 text. She has NEVER spent one full day with me and doesn’t acknowledge my achievements much. She just isn’t there when I need her to be. She claims she’s always working but she lives like 7 minutes away! she can come help with the kids so my husband can have break? we don’t ask her for much and she only sees the kids 1-2 a month. She also didn’t visit with my last c section. I told her that she should’ve gotten the abortion when she had the chance with me because why would you have me and neglect me emotionally? To not actually give me a present father in my life. I am very angry all she does is disappoint me. She only wants to show up for certain people in the family and I just want to grab her and shake her and ask her why can’t she be a good present mother?
