Help transitioning to bottle / cup

Does anyone have any advice for getting an EBF 5 month baby to take anything other than breast?! We’ve been trying for a while to get our LO to take a bottle and it’s just not happening. She’ll happily put a bottle in her mouth, plays with it, smiles and reaches out for it when we bring it to her but will not suck at all. She just looks at us after a while as if to say, great game but can we eat first and then play?

So far we’ve tried Medela, MAM, NanoBebe and Dr Brown, with normal and fast flow teats. NanoBebe seems to be a little more successful but I’m not sure to be honest. We’re trying most days and have tried both formula and breast milk, warmed slightly and also at room temp.

For context, she did take a bottle for the first month and then, when BF started working better, we focused on getting that secured. But bottles are now completely out!

She’ll be going to nursery in October and I’ve heard of babies not being able to go as they won’t take anything but breast - bit worried as I need to go back to work! I also have a couple of summer plans that aren’t baby friendly but won’t be able to go if I can’t leave her 😅

Thanks in advance!

My little boy was the same but more recently we’ve had success. I started introducing some milk after solids. And he gradually accepted more and more. I used formula because it became depressing wasting so much breast milk. He’s 7.5 now and I’m working on the transition to bottles in the day. It’s slow progress but he does know how to do it. I also bought all the bottles going like you, and I don’t think it makes any difference so I’d just pick the ones you like best. And go for it.

Hey! My daughter is the same. We’ve been trying for over 3 months she’s now nearly 7 months old. We’ve spent over £100 on bottles/ cups.
She will take the occasional sip out of a munchkin 360 cup. But nothing enough to supplement a fed. But loves drinking water from the cup! 🙄
I’m starting to get concerned too as she’s goes to nursery in September.
Best of luck x

this is really helpful, thank you! Might give that one a try

can I ask how you got him to drink out of the cup?

she’ll be about 11 months. Happy if she’ll only take water whilst she’s at nursery, it’s just how we get her to drink it 😅 any tips?!

that’s really helpful and good to know! Hopefully we’ll get there 🤞🏻

oh that’s so frustrating! Perhaps she can have solid and water whilst at nursery as Reena has done above?

we waited until 6 months and introduced water in the cup, then slowly introduced the milk with it too, for some reason it worked 🤞🏼🤞🏼 for you too!!! Or I hope you find another solution

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?

How long did it take for your child’s circumcision to heal and you could give him a bath?

I’ve just been wiping him down with a fiber wash cloth but I just wanted to know from others experience on how long it took

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....
