Help!
I am due December 2024 and I am trying to learn everything I can about my benefits.
When going on my maternity leave I can leave 4 weeks before my due date and be off for 6/8 weeks depending on delivery, when on this leave do I apply for Paid Family Leave on EDD?
I then plan to take my additional 12 weeks off on FMLA, does EDD payout for this benefit, if so how do I apply?

Thank you Michelle!!!
So just to clarify is disability insurance and paid family leave separate???

You may experience post partum anxiety or depression and your dr can extend your disability for as long as you need or until your claim amount is done . They just need to fill out a certification on their end . You may not need to do this but I didn't know and was stressing about it

The soonest you can be taken off work is at 36 weeks unless there’s a medical reason your doctor wants to take you off sooner. Once you get taken off work you can start your SDI claim and once you give birth you are given another 6 (vaginal delivery) or 8 weeks (c-section) of disability leave. When your disability leave is over and you are deemed able to return to work is when you will submit your PFL claim for baby bonding. Check with your employer that you qualify for this leave. This is just a job protected leave and is not paid through your employer unless they allow you to use any vacation or sick hours.
You will be paid from EDD and although you are allowed to take 12 weeks with your employer only 8 of those weeks are paid from EDD.

lol your lucky- I’m self employed and run my own business.. I’m on my own- at least you get something 🤪, but good luck with edd- hopefully easier that covid times

Are you based in the US because my god that sounds soooo complicated compared to the UK? Also, that's such a short time, you guys are entitled too, once compared to the UK, my maternity pay started 17th of June, until March next year, just had to send a form off and that was it... & my partner is just entitled to 2 weeks off which he just let's his work know when he wants to start it & he gets paid!
