Accessory lobe placenta

I have been for an ultrasound this week and they have found that my placenta is mainly anterior with a small accessory lobe that is low lying posterior covering my cervix. I need scanned again at 32 weeks to see if it has moved otherwise it will be a cesarean again.
I'm not worried so much about having a cesarean but they said about the risks of bleeding so a bit anxious about that.
Anyone else with the same or had this before?

I was told similar at my 20 week scan too and also booked in for another scan at 32 weeks. They never mentioned anything to me about bleeding but after doing a little bit of research afterwards I have read this can happen but if it does to just go straight to hospital so they can monitor it properly.
I was told not to worry as the majority of times the placenta will move up and out of the way.
I've also read on here that it can move out of the way after 32 weeks too so if it comes to 32 weeks and it hasn't moved I'm going to push for another scan at 36 weeks as I personally would rather avoid a csection if possible.

Like Tanya said do a bit of research as NHS seems not to provide good enough info. With low lying placenta or placenta previa I would persinally avoid sex as that can cause the bleeding or spotting. But that is your decision 😊😊😊

Hiya, I also have a succenturiate placenta. Usually they're not an issue as long as both lobes are away from the cervix. It occurs in about 1-3% of pregnancies.

It's worth noting it's not the same as having 1 low lying placenta as there are 2 parts and they blood vessels that connect the two can also overly the cervix causing vasa previa.

If your lobe is overlying the placenta then you cannot aim for vaginal delivery as it would have disastrous consequences. However, it can still move upwards before your third trimester scan so you've got time to do some reading and get prepared.

I'm a research radiographer and have been doing a lot of reading into this! I can send you some journal articles and reputable data if it helps. There is nothing in the NHS website about this as it is pretty uncommon.

There are some increased risks for bleeding and retained placenta due to having 2 lobes that need to detach and come out, but the overall risk remains low.

thankyou for this advice, this is correct this is what I have the extra lobe which is more than just a low lying placenta/placenta previa and people get mixed up with this. The accessory lobe is low lying and posterior and covering my cervix yet the placenta is mainly anterior. I've read a few things and what you have mentioned is what I'm worrying about the risks even with a cesarean of bleeding etc. I am having a repeat scan at 32 weeks to see if it has moved and have been told if it has not then it will be a cesarean at 39 weeks, however when I read online it says cesarean would usually be performed between 36-38 weeks so I am going to query this. Yes please if you could send me some information that would be appreciated thankyou

my placenta has the accessory lobe which is different to just a low lying placenta/placenta previa so I'm guessing that's maybe why?

I'll message you 👍

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

2nd pregnancy after c section

I’m not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon but in the future possibly. I just wanted to know how is pregnancy after c section like my fear is having to go through another emergency operation or even putting strain on my incision during pregnancy

Baby Movements

Hello, I’m a FTM currently 18W5D pregnant. I’ve been getting this tugging feeling in my stomach after I eat, it’s uncomfortable but not painful. I don’t know whether that’s the baby moving or round ligaments pain.

I’ve also been getting round ligament pain which is either a sharp stabbing pain or a stretching sensation. These happens whether or not I’ve eaten while the tugging feeling is only after I’ve eaten.

So, could the tugging feeling be the baby or something else.
