High Nuchal Fold Measurement

Hi all! Our NIPT test results showed our baby has a “lower chance” of having chromosomal conditions, however at our 20 week scan the measurement of the nuchal fold was coming up high 7mm. We were referred to a consultant and the measurements varied (baby was moving a lot both times), but still was recording over what they would want it to be. Everything else is looking good, but of course not the reassuring results we had hoped for. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Thank you.

Not at 20 weeks but at 12 weeks both my babies had high nuchal measurements and I underwent invasive testing. Both results came back fine. My son is 13 months old and healthy and I’m 26 weeks with no further complications with my second

I had the same thing, at the 12 week scan everything came back normal low chance, i also had done a private NIPT test which was all low chance, and the nucal fold was under 3mm. However at my 20 week scan it was nearly 8 and i got referred to a specialist. I was freaking out. The sonographer measured it wrong i guess. Everything was normal. It gets a bit difficult i guess to measure when baby is bigger. She was born 29 weeks due to other complications but other than that she is a very healthy 11 month old xx

At 20 weeks the same happened to me (about 7mm too) we had scans every 4 weeks because he was measuring small but no other indications of chromosomal conditions but the nuchal fold resolved itself over the next 2 scans (and he came out 7lbs at 37 weeks sooo wasn’t small) x

hi Sian! Did you do a NIPT test?

Thank you to everyone for your advice & experiences. We met with a consultant at St George’s and from their scan, they found the nuchal fold to appear normal and found no other markers of chromosomal defect.

Sorry to jump on a late post ! I’ve also found out my baby Nuchal fold is measuring big around (7.6mm) it’s totally freaked me out!! I’ve had my bloods done again today and also booked in for another scan in 3 weeks. So worried. Also thinking of having the NIPT test done privately? Did you go ahead with it or ? Xx thanks

Hi Tyra, I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this now. Sounds so similar to our experience. We did a private NIPT at that came up as low chance of chromosomal conditions, and they say this is the most advanced non invasive testing, so we felt it was worth it. It seems the nuchal fold measurements can be hard to read / take, depending on the angle / and position of the baby’s neck at the time. X

I’ve gone through with the nipt testing so we are just awaiting results!! thanks so much for the reply xx

Hi Pixie, sorry to hear that, and that really doesn’t sound helpful at all! From our experience, we were told that the NIPT is the most accurate method of testing, so think it’s definitely worth it.

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

My daughter‘s name is valentýna and I’m struggling to find other nice girl and boy names beginning with V I’ve got a few and I’ve got loads that aren’t beginning with V, but I feel like I wanna go for all vs and I also love girl and boys names that match so because my daughter’s name is valentýna I would love to call my son Valentino my husband does not agree 😃

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
