My little girl, 19 months old, has started having horrendous tantrums and it’s totally controlling our life, I see other peoples children having tantrums in public and it seems nowhere near as extreme as what we’re dealing with 😩
She is so clingy to me (her mum) won’t let anyone else pick her up, comfort her other than my sister, won’t calm down. For instance she has began to hate going in the pram, she will scream and become hysterical, climb out to the point she’s hanging out, I’ve tried continuously putting her back in but she goes stiff so I can’t get her in whilst screaming so much and selfishly on my part, after about 10/15 mins of trying, I’m on the verge of tears, sweating from the total fight I’m having with her and don’t know what to do.
We bought a trike to see if that helps and we’re getting the same reaction. All she wants, is for me to carry her, we’ve tried leaving the pram at home and putting her on her reins instead but it’s physically impossible for me to carry her all the time and sometimes she needs to be in the pram as it’s much safer in busy places.
She’s now refusing to go into a high chair in public and it’s exhausting, I just feel at a total loss of what to do and how to make this easier for her and for us. I’m dreading going out and it’s making me so stressed.
For content, she’s extremely clingy, I can’t leave the room without tears, go to the toilet without her crying next to me, her dad feels so helpless because she just has no interest in being around him, he tries so hard for instance whilst I shower he’ll do an activity with her but it’s impossible when we’re out because the screaming is so bad.
She doesn’t seem to do it over anything else, she shares toys with her cousins, plays with things but the pram and high chair seem to trigger something that I just don’t know how to deal with.
Has anyone experienced similar? And have any advice? 😩😩😩

I'd definitely recommend a good babt carrier, you can get toddler and pre school ones.
However, also I'm with you. We've had this since her birthday and honestly I'm so done with it, but other than letting her feel it and being there when she's ready, I don't know what else to do 🫠.
It is the last surge of seperation anxiety until around 2 and then it fluctuates until 3 and tends to Peter off then.
The pram, high chair can simply just be them hating being restricted. We've swapped to a table and chair for her for food or letting her roam. She also hates her car seat until we move due to being restrained. Pram we've currently compromised and as long as I walk fast or over bumpy terrain she's OK, but she's always faired better when carried/worn. We're investing in a better carrier soon but I also have a toddler tula and although not perfect for me, is a massive help for us and I'd be lost without it. It helps keep her regulated and makes my life so much easier xx

I could have written some of this. I've seen my friends babies have "tantrums" which seem to be a bit of a whinge. Ours are ridiculously intense screaming and throwing himself around. It's rare they happen in public but he had one in sainsburys the other day when I tried to sit him in the trolley. It's awful and so upsetting. I read to just ignore the tantrum (but not leave them alone in case they accidentally hurt themselves) and then reward with attention when they're done. So far this isn't working haha. I'm really hoping it's a phase. So no good advice sorry but you aren't alone and my boys clinginess is also next level, needs to sit on my knee while I have a wee 😆 for the Highchair I started to let him out and sit on my knee to eat then put him back in when calmer. And for walking we have a good toddler carrier which he goes in for unsafe bits, he tolerates going back in this much better than the pram we've found and it's better for us for walking the dog for example but maybe less good for shopping etc

Our LG also hates pram, trike (can’t put her in there anymore), high chair. Maybe it’s just a phase (I hope so) for high chair I usually trick her with a small piece of the food she likes. Same with the pram. I put her in and give her a snack. But usually she wants to get out of it as soon as she finished. The big issues are the shopping carts at the stores. She wouldn’t sit in those unless it’s a toy car with a steering wheel 😥

It’s so hard isn’t it!! I’m definitely going to have a look at a baby carrier again, I just don’t know what to do otherwise; we’ve found it’s been since her birthday as well, it seems to be getting worse and worse and it’s even worse again if she’s tired, which escalates the tantrums and tears to uncontrollable sobbing.
It makes me feel like the absolute worst mum, I hate seeing her like it and I really hope it’s a phase and hope when she’s talking she’s able to communicate how she’s feeling more rather than going 0-100 in a split second 😩 xx

I found explaining in advance what was going to happen as my son understand a lot more than I realise. So for example, we are going to change your nappy, put on some clothes and your socks and shoes, then we are getting in the car seat to go for a drive to go to the shops and it goes on and on. Also plenty of distractions and snacks. We still have tantrums but it calms him down when it’s been explained.

I agree with Anna plenty of communication.
Giving little one a choice with literally everything you can so that they feel they have some control over the situation. They’re bound to have feeling of frustration and anger at this age because of lack of control and communication barriers.
Having a good sleep and routine is also key.
I find promoting independence. I let my little one get her shoes and coat lots of things are at her level around the house. For example doing her hair has become an issue so I let her choose the clip she wants or bobble. She has a mirror her height and we do it slowly together talk through it and I get her opinion if she likes it etc.
I suppose allowing lots of time for things to be done. Trying something else and revisiting the topic later. Also not saying no all the time. Giving some notice before ending an activity. But I appreciate its damn hard toddlerhood and tantrums

Regarding the high chair problem. I bought a small table and chair she loves sitting at or sometimes stands at picking her snacks. Pram is a tough one but yea carriers or trying any new features for example if you haven’t turned it around facing out or getting a new interesting toy on it maybe

I’ve given up with a high chair in public, I try to sit in booths with him on the inside and ask him to put “bums on seats”. Regarding the pram, it’s tough, but you could give her a choice, tell her in advance we are going to go out to X place so first buggy then X place. Does she want to go in the buggy or bike? (If that’s an option) then does she want to get in the buggy herself or would she like you to put her in? Offer as much choice as you can to give her control. As long as it’s a tantrum and not a disregulation, choice is the best strategy.

Mine hates highchairs too, if we are eating out I try and sit somewhere like a booth so she can go in the corner and I can sit beside her.
Toddler carrier may be good for out and about?
This all sounds really tough, you will get through it ❤️
