St michaels no kids at scans policy

Hey, does anyone know how strict they are about no kids at ultrasound scans, I stupidly booked mine for what is usually my partners day off forgetting its summer hols and his working days/hours change. Was hoping he could go in late but he cant so now I have nobody to look after our almost 3 year old.
He would most likely happily sit there and watch cocomelong or blippi on my phone for the duration but not sure if they would allow him in or turn me away.

I’ve never taken my son with me to any of my scans with my current pregnancy but I’ve seen a fair few people take their kids aged 2/3/4 with them. I’m sure with the circumstances they’ll be fine with it. You could always give them a call to see what they say xx

Hi! No experience myself but when I was at a growth scan last week, a couple attended with their toddler in a pram and the mum went into the scan alone, presuming the toddler couldn’t come in. When the sonographer heard, she came out and said they could all go in. Not sure how they would be if there was no one to directly supervise your child. Could you keep him strapped into a push chair? X

Hi, so I’ve taken my 1 year old to the appointments with me I have had people with me to sit in the waiting room with her but no one ever said anything about not bringing her in so I think with circumstances they will understand xx

Ive not done it personally but seen a mum on her own with her toddler come in for a scan. I dont think they can discriminate against people who have no supportor other options so i think its fine x

Thanks for all the replies ladies. I did take my eldest when pregnant with my 2nd but that was 13 years ago.
Then covid restrictions were still in place for my 2021 baby so I didnt know if they had kept the up with how strict they were.
I will give them a call in the morning if I can get through, and see what they say.

Suprisingly my little one tends to do better out of his puschair rather than in it but he can be 50/50 with how he will behave which is my only worry.

When I went in for my 30 week scan in January at Southmead there was a lady who came in with a toddler in his pram and they wouldn't allow him in with her so she had to rebook her scan when she had someone to look after her toddler. Every other person in there bought a second person to watch the older child if they had one 🤷‍♀️

This past winter I had a scan booked last minute for reduced movement and they let me take my 2 year old with me into the room at St Mikes. He was in his pram the whole time. I think you might be able to get away with it - I found it hard to reach anyone on the number they gave.

I went to all my appointments at st Michaels with my toddler, they never said anything.

I had mine at Southmead and my partner missed my 20 week due to a childcare mix up. Just because it says online that no children only one birth partner in with you. I think it's because they're medical appointments and they could find something that isn't pleasant and in that case it's not the best environment with young children there

I think it might depend on the reason for the scan, so 12 and 20 weeks, perhaps not as they are dating and anomaly scans, so potentially the mother could receive distressing news.

A growth scan or positioning scan are different.

You're best off phoning them and telling them the situation, they can put a plan in place for your appointment, like having an extra chaperone available just in case for your little one. My hospital specifically says on the letter no children allowed and to call them if you don't have childcare available

Just to update and incase anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation. I attended without issue, I just mentioned it to the receptionist when I arrived and they said it should be fine, I then apologised to the sonographer and said I know they usually like there to be no children and explained the situation but she wasnt bothered at all.
My little one sat through it all fine, either watching youtube or the screen showing baby "sissy"( sex unknown but he is sure its a baby sister 😁 The sonographer was lovely and included my little boy in the scan telling him baby was waving hello to their big brother.
He even behaved enough to wait around for me to have the whooping cough vaccine.

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

Newborn stage

Is anyone tired of doing the same thing everyday and being on a 2-3 hour schedule? It’s the same everyday and I feel like I’m losing my mind. It’s making me depressed even if I get out once a day. When does it get better? I feel like I’m just waiting for the next stage where it’s not just sitting around all day.
