Hello, I’ve recently had my 20 week scan followed by another with a consultant and both confirmed an echogenic bowel. The initial scan also flagged that the femur was below the 5th percentile but above 3rd and when I asked the consultant she said there needs to be a 2 week gap before it can be measured again. We’ve had subsequent tests for Cystic fibrosis and an infection and they are all clear. All initial tests for Downs were low risk too.
All professionals have been quite reassuring that it’s likely to be nothing serious and we will just need a Doppler scan and growth scans but I can’t stop worrying.
Has anyone had either/ both of these and what has been your experience? I think I’m concerned that it’s both even though the femur measurement is technically above their cut off of 3rd percentile (but then why does it say but below 5th… that suggests the 5th is also important/perhaps used to be the cut off?)

I've had the echogenic bowel and echogenic gallbladder caught at 36 and 37 weeks and nothing they could do other than the cystic fibrosis and Downs tests like you mentioned which were also low for me. Baby had an ultrasound scan after she was born after 6 weeks and everything was fine. They say often the babies fix everything up themselves within the first few weeks and we have to trust them to do it. I hope everything goes well for you, I'm sure it will! Good luck with with everything xx

I’ve had this with the femur measurements, I had nothing picked up until my scan at 35 weeks, was told my little ones femurs were on the 3rd centile, I went back two weeks later for another scan and was told he’s grown but not as much as he should of so that placed him then on the 5th centile, they wanted to induce me at 39 weeks so I went in and was in hospital for a week, ended up having a c section and my little one came out perfectly fine, at birth he was placed on the 29th centile, scans are not always accurate when it comes to measurements so try not to worry to much, my midwife said they place these babies on charts like they’re all the same and they’re not, every babies is different and some are smaller than others but small babies can still be healthy babies, hope everything goes well and try not to worry to much, everyone told me to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy but it honestly ruined it for me, don’t let it ruin your experience to x

I was given so many extra scans and warned of so many possibilities, they booked me in for induction really early and they even tried to get me to have a c-section
In the end I had my baby naturally and nothing was wrong with her, I spent so much of my pregnancy worried because of it
I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry, it’ll cause you both more harm stressing if it was a huge issue they would make sure you knew
Hope you’re okay! 🫶🏼x
Thank you, that’s reassuring to know.
Thank you. I am worried if this continues they would suggest an induction and it’s something I’m not keen on unless there is a need for it with baby being at risk but it’s so difficult to know because as you say scans can be inaccurate.
thank you! That’s reassuring. It worries me about being offered interventions like an induction or a c-section as I had my first child naturally and would love to do that again. Also I was a small baby (25th percentile) so part of me wonders whether baby is just more like me (our first is a carbon copy of daddy!)
that’s really helpful- thank you!!

Yeah it is really hard to know what to do when they’re telling you all these things, with me they said it was a possibility that my placenta was no longer working as it should hence the “growth stunt in his femurs” I really didn’t want the induction but they advised it as it was basically the unknown and I didn’t want to take the risk, honestly no one can tell you what to do you’ll know what’s right for you and your baby, but I wish I went with my gut instinct and declined the induction and just let it happen naturally, ruined my birth for me honestly but in the end it was all worth it and it’ll be the same for you, wish you all the best for you and your baby xx
Thank you so much. It’s so hard to know what the right thing is at the time. My first birth was perfect (albeit 36hours!) and I hope this one ends up like that too as it’s still early but the possibility of interventions worry me (it was a bit of a worry the first time when our daughter was late!). Thank you!! And I’m glad it has all worked out well for you!

Hi dear, any updates about your baby? Did u give birth? I have the same problem and I’m a bit worried 😔
