I think I just need to vent. My partner is the love of my life and I wouldn’t be without him but since my baby was born he’s just gotten on my nerves more and more. Our son is 9 months next week and we’ve fallen out pretty hard tonight. He just doesn’t do much parenting day to day. I feel like a single mum. He cooks me dinner every night (which I’m obviously grateful for) but that really is it. He doesn’t clean the house, he leaves an absolute trail of destruction everywhere he goes and expects me to pick up after him. I do almost everything for the baby apart from when I need a shower or maybe go out for an hour or two, if I’m lucky. I feed our son (breastfeed and 3 solid meals a day), I take him to wherever he’s going for childcare as I’m back at work, and I pick him up again. I bathe him, I wash all his bottles and make them up for the next day, I get him to bed and I get him back to sleep whenever he wakes up. My partner never offers to help unless I ask, he never tries to give me a break or even shows gratitude for everything I do. I’m at my wits end and I’ve really laid into him tonight. He said he feels like a shit partner and father so I feel guilty now but I really don’t like him as a person lately. He’s not the dad I expected him to be and it’s so disappointing. I thought it was just my hormones making me hate him but it doesn’t seem to be improving. I don’t know what to do 😢

I could have written this myself. Mine does get up once every night for the first feed since our baby still gets up (8 months) but other than that I feel all he does is sit on his phone and not clean up after himself or anyone else and no yard work nothing and I gotta do it all (I'm on Mat leave though) but he does cook like yours...I lost it yesterday too after I told him put a mask on if he's gunna go to this dumb meet and greet with his sisters friends cuz he's been coughing here and there and he didn't and I lost it too and said everything! I took everything he doesn't put away and threw it all into his office after he left. We are not talking at the moment still. He slept in the other room last night.

This comic might help him understand why you’re feeling frazzled and overwhelmed - he might simply be totally unaware of the invisible load you carry.
It sounds like he wants to be helpful and be a good partner and dad, so maybe he just needs to be taught to see the invisible work more.
Even if he doesn’t help so much with childcare, he can still chip in more in other ways. For example, my husband isn’t a natural with some of the baby stuff but he makes up for it by doing more of the housework and life admin, to give me more time and headspace to focus on fun and stimulating baby activities.

I feel like every couple goes through this in some form when they have a baby. They're not kidding when they say so many couples desperate after having a child. It's a lot of change and trying to navigate that on no sleep and a new routine is tough.
It is good you've voiced your frustrations though, hopefully now it's out in the open, you can talk about it.
And that's the key thing, you have to talk to each other, otherwise it all just crumbles.
For a long time I felt like I was living with a roommate, not my husband, and it wasn't until we talked about it that it got better. We still have weeks where it's tough, but I feel like I have my partner back now.

It baffles me that even working moms still go through this to this day. I’m a SAHM and I know my husband is stressed at work as an engineer mentally and physically, so it’s unreasonable for me to expect him to contribute all that much at home. But if you’re working, this really shouldn’t be a debate. It’s misogynistic and this all comes down to how they were raised sadly. You’d think they should know better, but they do need help understanding this.
