My partners family say i spoil my 10 week baby. They say I hold him 2 much (I ebf ) & I want 2 comfort when he cries. He sleeps in his own bassinet and when I see them he’s overwhelmed and needs cuddles with me/his dad rather than passed..

Around! What can I say/do ???

You don’t have to say or do anything. That is your baby. You parent however way you see fit. He’s not a toy for people to pass around and play with. If he needs comforting and be in his safe space (you and dad), then that’s what he gets

You cannot spoil a baby! There is no such thing as holding an infant too much. That baby was inside you for 9 months, he still needs you now.

The world is obsessed with babies NOT being babies and soothing themselves or being independent when they are infants it makes no sense.

Keep cuddling him Mama, keep seeing to all his needs and totally ignore them.

My mum said the same to me once as I use to wear my daughter in a wrap all the time because she was very clingy and she said I am spoiling her and I said “I am not ever going to limit the love and attention I give my child. Not now not ever and it’s weird you think I should” and it shut her up pretty quick.

I have a very confident, happy, independent 3 year old now! Xxx

Don’t feel bad one bit my mom use to say I was abusing my baby bc I wouldn’t give him water at 2 weeks of being born

Don't listen to anyone on this. Research shows that babies with very affectionate and attentive mothers grow up to be happier, more resilient, and less anxious adults.

Ask them if they need a hug

I hate people who tell you you’re spoiling a baby by holding them 🙄 as if being a new Mum isn’t hard enough without them being made to feel bad for doing something that’s completely natural! Hold your baby and ignore them.

Avatar

Keep holding your baby. Obviously not comfortable around them and for good reason. At that age, you can’t spoil him. This may not actually help but he is YOUR baby not theirs and baby is his own being and not an object to do whatever will they want when they want.

You can never give too many cuddles, my last baby I never ever put down, he never slept in his own crib until he was 11 months old , and then when it was time for his own room I took that jump and expected him to be a nightmare, but he wasn't, he slept like a dream. He was my baby number 8 and I have older children so I know first hand how quickly them years go. You hold him while you can ❤️

I hate the breastfeeding comments, I always get the same comments " that baby is always on your boobs , surely they aren't still hungry, he's obviously not full give him a bottle , blar blar" it grates on me x

Avatar

you cant spoil a baby, tell then to be quiet and if they want to parent they should plan for another child OF THEIR OWN. Maternal instincts are always best followed so you do you and as long as ur baby is fed, dressed, loved and happy your doing brilliant 🥰

Avatar

It's impossible to spoil a baby. I actually find the person making these comments is usually jealous and wants to be one giving all the cuddles.
I had it all from my mil and guess what I ignored her!
Hold your baby as much as you want and ignore the idiots x

Avatar

@Amy same! Usually always from idiots that have zero clue about breastfeeding! My bil once made the comment "wow I've never none a baby to feed so much" said in a very passively aggressive way because he wanted to play "pass the baby around"
All his children were formula fed! 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠

you’ll get judgement from people no matter what you do! cuddle that baby for as long as they want to be cuddled!! i find it hard pinning down my 3 year old now, he actually says ‘i don’t want a cuddle mummy i’ll give you one in a little bit’ and fully pies me off

Avatar

I find these are the same people that want to come around and hold your baby for hours straight so it doesn’t really make any sense that it’s ok for them to do it and not you, the mom. Keep holding your baby. There’s no way to spoil a baby with love and comfort. And even if there was they should be happy that your baby has a mom like you.

Avatar

Thank you all for the kind reassuring words xx I really appreciate it

Avatar

I always find such comments strange. You wouldn't leave an adult alone crying, so why leave a baby? Keep up the cuddles!

Avatar

10 weeks old and comments like that SMH! Your baby, your rules 🥰 I'd do it all the more just to show them you're the parent 😁

girl you could sew him to your skin and it still wouldn’t be holding him too much. he’s literally helpless without you

Nursery funding

My child turned 9 months last week. I applied for government funded hours nearly 2 months ago and so well within the required timeframe for the April term, however upon receiving my first invoice without the funding applied and having questioned this, I have now been informed that the stretched funding doesn’t start until 4th May.

Has anyone else been told it won’t start until May?

The government site states it should start from April 1st, and so I intentionally set my nursery start and return to work as the start of April for that reason, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to afford the nursery on my sole income without the funding

Toddlers

How often are your toddlers asking for food? My oldest who is 3 just finished a whole plate of food and not even 10 minutes later he’s requesting more food. I know he’s going through a growth spurt, but how do you respond to this.

He has no respect for anything to do with me.

Husband and I decided to separate 3 days ago. I've been sleeping on the floor in the kids room, and we both have to stay in the same apartment for a while. He wont stop pushing little things and I am reaching my limit. Photos in comments

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Identity crisis?

Am I the only sahm who feels like they have lost their identity??? I don’t make money for my family, when I used to make great money. But I refuse to drop my under a year old baby off with strangers.
My husband works so much. But I have no control over bringing in money and I’m a control freak type of person! I feel l like I’m losing my grip because we are kind of broke, but day care would only eat up my income anyways! So what’s the point. I’m a workaholic and now I’m just a twitching bum.
I wish I could work from home but so far that’s a fake dream. I’m almost 9 months pp, and I just need to know these awful mood swings and depression will end soon! Send wine!
