Induced

I was induced and when they started the pitocin drip the contractions came on hard and fast with little reprieve. You can ask for an epidural when they start the drip. Ask how many inductions end in an emergency c section as it is quite high and I was never told. I say this not to scare you but so you can be informed. Obviously not everyone's experience is the same

Hi! My induction wasn’t the greatest but I’ll spare you the details. When you first go in, they may insert a Foley catheter thing to dilate you (depending on what type of induction you’re getting). This can be very intense so don’t be afraid to ask them to release a tiny bit of pressure if you need to.
Second, they say “rest” overnight but I found that I was contracting all night- was a bit of a challenge to sleep so just lay there and focus your breath with your eyes closed.
Finally, if they’re switching the drip on and off and your labour keeps stalling- ask what else they can do. I spent 8hrs doing this and never progressed, and ended in an emergency c section. Don’t be afraid to speak up early if you feel like something isn’t right.

My advice will be to have a plan and know what you do and do not want, as induction can cause quite intense labour pain.

Good luck mumma. I had the most beautiful positive 4 hour induction birth, and I hope the same for you. Things that helped me: staying active, asking the midwives for different position, and using the shower.

I was induced. They inserted the balloon overnight and then the next day there was enough room to break my waters. I asked for 2 hrs before they started the syntocin to see if labour started naturally. They weren’t happy - I had to push for it.
I darkened the room, put on music, bounced like crazy on an exercise ball and gradually the contractions came.
I opted not to get an epidural so that I could move freely and to avoid the risk of the labour slowing.
My biggest advice is to don’t feel pressured to make a decision straight away unless it is an emergency and to have a flexible plan beforehand.

I’ve been induced twice.. with my first daughter I had cervidil inserted and was left in for roughly 12hrs. They took it out and had my stay over night, early next morning they checked bubs heart beat before breaking my waters. Once they broke my waters, she was born 25min later (she is my second child). Then my 4mth old I got induced again, got cervidil inserted & left in for about 8hrs. When they removed this they then put the balloon in which stayed in over night. Wasn’t heaps painful, but was uncomfortable some Panadol fort so I could try get some sleep. Next morning (roughly 10hrs later) they took balloon out & broke my waters. They waited about 2hrs to see if I would labour naturally, but nothing was really progressing so they hooked me up to the drip & then once that got going, Bub was out about 45min later. I suggest to try & keep on your feet as much as possible. I would walk through my contractions, concentrate on deep breaths and try & push on all 4s or knees. All the best ♥️

I just wanted to say I was so so worried about being induced and moments after he was born I turned to my husband and said “that was no where near as scary as I thought”
The process of as long for me so rest when the do the balloon when you can. I asked for the epidural before I would allow them to start the drip as we had already been contracting for 15 hours and was struggling, they waited which was great. So glad I did considering he was born 10 hours after the drip started.

We aren’t planning on number two yet but I hope for another induction.

I was induced after 24hrs of slow labour and not realising my water had broken. Was put on the drip, after almost another 24hrs of horrendous contractions they said I would need an emergency c-section. My advice, take use of the gas and avoid saline injections. Ask if you can eat. I wasn’t told when I may need a c-section until it was too late and couldn’t eat. But then had to wait 6 hours till the theatre was free. Lastly, advocate for yourself! I didn’t have an epidural at all though, so got a different anaesthetic during the c-section so maybe opt for that if you feel inclined. My arms went a bit numb when I finally got into the theatre for caesarean because of the anaesthetic they used. Wasn’t great but wore off super quick. Maybe also push for a c-section if you feel it’s taking too long. I didn’t but probably should have. Regardless, you got this! You get a beautiful baby at the end of it all which is AMAZING
