@Sarah oh bless you! You must be exhausted with so many breaks in your sleep. I wish I had it in me but I love my sleep and baby let's me sleep which is great x
Sounds like high lipase. Mine goes FOUL after 24 hours in the fridge and freezing doesn’t stop it either but heating it does. I’ve got heating it down now but I cba to pump atm 😅 Either I half arse it and just sterilise a bottle in a pan of hot water and then pour milk into the hot bottle and give it a shake so the milk gets evenly hot then refrigerate. Or I do it with a thermometer. Pan of water boiling (not loads of water), bottle of milk with the CLEAN probe in the milk and swirl till it hits the right temperature… I want to say 70° but I can’t remember and then refrigerate I use glass bottles so they definitely won’t melt touching the pan, plastic might be ok but be more careful. Kelly mom has information too.
@Sarah i thought you couldn’t boil breast milk either, could only warm for use. @Kierrah Do you boil it once pumped then cool and fridge then heat to use? Or boil it when you go to use it and wait for it to cool to a warm temp for the baby? How can you lower your lipase levels naturally?
Don’t boil it, it’s a little lower than boiling. I heat it within 24 hours of pumping and then it goes back in the fridge or I guess freezer (I don’t bother). And then use as normal cold or warmed. Heating it later than 24 hours (for me, you might be a bit less or a bit more) wouldn’t stop the funkiness happening, once it’s done it’s done (some people can hide it with alcohol free vanilla flavour or diluted with fresh milk) https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/lipase-expressedmilk/
@KierrahSo if I pump and then heat just below boiling and wait for it to cool and pop it in the fridge it should stop the eggy smell and be fine to feed her within 48 hrs?
I've heard about boiling the milk but I've not tried this. Xx
