Measuring VERY big

Is anyone else expecting to have a big baby?

No GD. I know the scans can be off, but I'm currently well above the 97th centile, so is my bump. Apparently size is genetic, and I weighed well over 4kgs when I was born, so did my husband (his sister weighed 5kg!). I'm quite petite and a bit daunted...

Has anyone had a big baby before, or are measurements affecting your birth plan?

The doctor said if he's still this big at the next scan he'd recommend a C-section or early induction. I've been fence sitting about electing for C-section anyway because I've got a few close friends who had long term pelvic floor issues after vaginal delivery.

Anyway it would be great to hear from others in similar circumstances!

I’m measuring at 96th centile and after todays scan was advised to expect a 10lber as currently weighing approximately 5lb 7oz at 32 weeks! I don’t have any answers for you unfortunately but it’s nice to see it’s not just me 🙈 hopefully will be able to see other peoples answers!

I’m being sent for another GD test (I had one 3 weeks ago which was negative, but they’ve said that it can change at any time).

The midwife mentioned to have a think about induction and c section, but will know more at the next scan in 3 weeks x

My son was on the 99th centile the whole pregnancy. He was then born naturally at 36w4d at just under 6lb. They told me to expect a csection, but wasn't needed, and he was actually quite small. (For context i went from a soze 8 to size 16 on that pregnancy)I would say not to worry too much and wait until your next appointment x

Dr sara wickham has lots of great information about induction, growth scans etc.

I am 32 weeks but with 30 weeks my baby has 2kg and 42cm already 😵‍💫
I am not with diabetes, which was a concern for me . Thank God I will have a c section 🙏🏽🤣

At my 28 week scan he was measuring 91st centile. My husband and I were both big babies (10lb 11 and 9lb 4) and we're both taller than average so it's not unexpected. I won't be having an induction under any circumstances though I've decided against it.

My first baby boy was born at 41 weeks 10lb.7oz 60cm and 37.5 cm head. No GD. He was undetected big baby, only his femour was measuring long at the scans. I had no issues birthing him naturally. My experience with all my friends and myself is that the measurements are so inaccurate, I would not use them to make any decision. To be honest, it helped me not knowing he was a big baby so I just trusted my body with no doubt. I also wanted natural birth so much. I personally believe that everybody can birth their very own baby but completily understand elective c-section, I just would not base any decision on measurements.

Aw it's a lot to take in when they tell you that isn't it?!

My daughter was 10lb 11oz so top of the percentile at birth, and is still tall. My growth scan at 30 weeks also showed a big baby lol. He is right off the percentile chart at this point, already over 5lb.

I'm not too worried as I'd already decided on a planned section, after a difficult birth that ended in an emergency section last time!

I hear good things about planned sections being a lovely, calm experience which is what I need after last time 🤣

The recovery is tough, for sure, but my feeling is it is also hard to recover from most vaginal births and I have family close by to help so I'm in a fortunate position to have this option. Happy to chat about any of it! Xxx

My first boy was born on the 99th percentile at 10lb2oz! 38 weeks, This was induction as we didn’t know he was going to be big as I didn’t have growth scans, the only way we knew was because they thought he was breach, the doctors words were “he’s not breach, he’s just huge”. So I booked in immediately and I’m glad I did because he was shoulder dystocia.

This time around I’m currently 31 weeks and I’m the 97th percentile, again expected to be huge! So I’ll be opting for an induction this time around and not a C section. She’s also predicted to be born in the 99th percentile above 10lb2oz x

I was induced with my first pregnancy, my scans showed over 98th centile…she was born the day before her due date at 7lb 4oz! im declining any growth scans in this pregnancy until 36 weeks because they’re so inaccurate. All I need to know is whether I’ll be able to deliver safely x

baby is measuring 97th percentile at 31 weeks ( was 75th at 20week scan) and have been referred for a growth scan tomorrow but no-one has mentioned GD as of yet. Is this often the cause? my first was 6lb 6oz so seems a very big difference between the two pregnancies. Interested to see what everyone else experiences are x

I measured big for fundal height throughout my pregnancy with my first, never had any growth scans though. She was born naturally at 40+2, and she was a healthy 9lb. I did have to have an episiotomy to assist, but labour was pretty quick around 7 hours from start to finish. My midwife was always very relaxed about it saying our bodies won’t let us grow a baby bigger than we can push out. I beg to differ 🤣 I’m worrying that this one will also be big, but I know I can birth a big baby so just need to have faith in my body.
Also, regarding pelvic floor issues after vaginal birth, I never had any issues with my pelvic floor. Don’t get me wrong the first few weeks after birth were a bit hit and miss 🤣 but yeah I never had any issues and didn’t really even do any pelvic floor exercises or anything like that. I suppose it’s just down to you personally x

Unexpected c -section

I labored for weeks, went into active labor for 20 hours, pushed for 3 hours and failed to have a vaginal birth. They said my pelvis was too small for her big head. I personally think I wasn’t dilated enough and they wanted to rush me. Our bodies are made for birth. If you can afford a doula get one, and spend the last few weeks stretching, drinking okra water, and having sex!

I didn’t feel anything while in surgery, and my scar is really small. Healing the first couple weeks was brutal, but you get through it. Ask for help! Prepare meals, order meals, or have someone cook for you. It’s been 3 months and the scar is hardly noticeable! Baby is healthy, and happy❤️ that’s all that matters!

On the final stretch.. How we feeling ladies?

Not long left to go for our May babies ladies!!! I’m 35 weeks now and I’m honestly so over being pregnant at this point everything hurts, I’m restless and always uncomfortable and quite frankly just not enjoying these last few weeks at alllllll! Baby girl has been head down since 32 weeks and always pressing on my bladder so the constant peeing is another added extra and don’t even get me started on the lightning crotch!!!

How is everyone else feeling?

(Cheeky little bump update) people keep saying it looks like my bump has dropped but I really don’t see or feel like it has at all so not sure what others are seeing 🤷🏽‍♀️

C section overnight stay and a toddler

I will have an elective c section for my second baby (same as my first).

With my first, my partner stayed with me in the hospital overnight and helped me a lot with the baby so I had a pretty smooth recovery and was up and running 5 days postpartum.

Now, we need to decide if we should ask family members to come over (from abroad) and help with our toddler or we try to do the coordination/ management ourselves.

The hospital is only a 10 minute drive from our place and during the day my toddler will be at nursery (and my partner will be with me). I think I can handle 1-2 nights by myself at the hospital with the baby but I’m little concerned how would I lift the baby on day 1 given I will have a catheter. I don’t want to solely be relying on midwives. And if I fall asleep during the night, I’m also a bit worried about nobody looking after the baby.

You would think I would remember how it was the first night with my first but it’s all a blur.

What would you recommend if you had 2 c-sections and the same situation? Did you ask family to help?

Thanks!

Scan at 40+ weeks, anyone had a later scan?

Hi guys, I’ve got a scan booked in with the NHS to ensure my placenta is working well and baby is okay. For a bit of a back story, on Monday early hours I went to triage as baby wasn’t moving too much. They monitored me, all was well with his movements and heart beat in the end, but ended up seeing a doctor as she wanted to talk about inducing me. I said no to induction, however agreed to a sweep (I think I’ve lost my mucus plug and have been having slight contractions, but nothing major), so have another sweep booked at 41 weeks and induction booked for 41+1 weeks. Has anyone been in a similar situation and had a scan later in pregnancy due to similar circumstances? I’m kinda nervous for this scan out of all the ones I have had previous. I am considered low risk and have been throughout the pregnancy x
