Has anyone else had experience of this he's on the autism assessment waiting list but have been told by the neuro team that he does have signs of autism but they can't lable him without the red tape process . It scares me as he doesn't really eat much anyway and he's 3 and has very limited safe foods so I'm lost as to how to help him or if this is normal

Yup! We did that for a few weeks. Thankfully it has passed. It's always a hit or miss on if it is for attention or for the sensation. Which also makes it a challenge when deciding whether to address it or ignore the behavior. Not very helpful but we've been there.

both of my daughters did this for a period of time. stuck their fingers in their mouth until they puked, and they usually thought it was really funny. one daughter is on the spectrum, one is not that I know of, but I think it's pretty normal kid behavior.

Mine has been doing this since about 18 months. He’s 2 1/2 and nonverbal for the most part so he feels like it’s his only way to get our attention or to show his frustration. It drove me crazy for a little while, but then we figured out ways to stop it. Like, grabbing two toys and offering him a “choice” in which one to play with or picking him up and twirling him around or feeding him if it’s because he’s hungry, etc. They will eventually outgrow it! 🩷
Thank you that's so helpful I will try those thank you so much I'm new to accepting its autism if that makes any sense

Yes mine did this. I think very common with sensory kiddos but very very frustrating as a parent. An OT can help give some ideas to divert the behavior, but yes, mine also gradually outgrew the behavior. She’s still very sensitive to food textures though, so even at 10 it’s not uncommon for her to run to the toilet and claim she “got a bad bite” when she bites into something and can’t handle the texture of it.
I have bought him some more bite safe sensory toys and hopefully that will help him until someone answers me professional wise hopefully they answer me very soon scares me so much
