How long do you keep before tossing? Guide the hospital gave me says 5 days, but I just checked some I had for 5 days (today is day 5) and it’s no good 🫣👎🏻
My baby EBF so it’s rare I have a bottle hanging out anyway

What do you mean it’s now good ? Like it tastes bad ?
They say 4 days in a fridge then you can freeze it and it can be in the freezer for 6 months and deep freezer for a year
I would never throw any breast milk out ! Even if baby can’t drink it you can put it in their bath ! It’s great for their skin etc ..

The milk might not be bad. You might just have high lipase which changes the taste and smell of the milk. My milk only changes in taste and smell after the 3rd day in the fridge. It’s pretty gross to me but baby will drink it without an issue

I would keep mine in the fridge up to a week. Just check it before giving it to baby.

Standards say 4 hours at room temp after pumping, 4 days in fridge and up to a year in the freezer depending on the type of freezer. Defrosted milk is only good for 24 hours. All of these standards are based on bacteria growth. You can use the milk for a lot of things once it's outside those times though. I use for baths and to water my plants(dilated). I've been told there's other ways to use it to though

I read 4 days online too I’m so confused why the magnet the hospital gave me said 5 😂
Didn’t know you could use it for plants that’s a good idea!

yeah I read that if you are perfect at sanitation you can have it longer(6 hours room temp, 5 days fridge) but tired mommas are never perfect. Yeah just water it down and it feeds them great

you can actually save old/bad milk for milk baths, or making soap bars! we’ve done it for baths as it’s really good for their skin.
but it’s 4 days in the fridge from the time you pumped it. whoever told you 5 at the hospital needs to be properly educated.

it’s a magnet they handed me that has guidelines 🫣😅

@Abby the AAP guidelines used to be up to 8 days in the fridge. They have updated them in the last three years, but since that is what I followed with my first child, that is what I still do. If 4 days feels safer to you, that's fine.
