My little boy is 7 months and ever since weaning he is struggling with bad wind at night. No matter what he has and what time of the day he has food, as soon as it gets to bed time he is crying in pain and is desperately trying to squeeze farts out. This goes on throughout the night and the only time he will sleep now is if we co-sleep. He's still up every 2 hours through the night to feed as well (EBF) but I don't know what I can do to help the pain with the gas. I've tried dentinox drops and they do get a little bit out of him but he still seems in pain and it wakes him up

I’ve had the same problem and been giving my LO gripe water before and after her meals. And on the days I don’t give gripe water and she is not gassy I noticed the food she had is fine for her. But if she is gassy without gripe water I try to give the same food again the next day to see if that food doesn’t sit well with her tummy so I avoid giving it again.

do you think it's made a difference?

No idea what to suggest but you’re not alone, my little girl is exactly the same!! Night time is just so hard now to get her settled and so restless through the night 😪 same as your little boy feeding every 2/3 hours still :( xx

I stopped my little one having food past 5pm as we aim for bedtime around 7:30/8.
Whenever he’s finished with food I will let him sit and chill for half an hour before trying to do the bedtime routine.
I must admit I spent a long time finding the right times to give my little one food because of the gassy problem, my paediatrician said greens make them gassy, so anything green that you try them on try a give it to them earlier rather than later in the day and I also find foods that are cold/cooler gives my little one gas, so I do try and make sure his food is warm if I’m using a jar/pouch xx

as rubbish as it is, it does make me feel better knowing I'm not the only one!! He will sleep in his own bed until about 12 and then after that just won't go back down unless he's physically on top of me or in bed next to me. How old is your little girl? Xx

definitely
Also after feeds or solids I let her play around for a bit, you know let her kick her legs around it helps her digest her food better

thank you! At the moment I'm doing breakfast and then a late lunch / early dinner around 3. He goes to bed about 7:30/8 as well. He's just started crawling so the movement has helped get a bit of the gas out but it doesn't seem to matter what he eats it's constant with his tummy. Have you tried gripe water or any colic drops? Xx

great I'll pick some up tomorrow. Thanks a lot x

Also in the same boat! So restless and fidgety, my daughter rolls around and then ends up crying because she’s waking up.
I tried dettinox colic drops but hard to tell if there’s a difference.
Do you find the gripe water helps?
Also EBF through the night every 2/3 hours usually x

does she sleep ok for the first portion of the night? He will only sleep on his side / front and then once he's woken up he won't go back to sleep unless he's been picked up, cuddled, fed and then maybe - depending on the night - will go back down. More often than not I have to just bring him into bed with me as the exhaustion is just too much 😥 I know he's teething atm but not sure if that is to blame?? He's never slept though the night and the longest he's ever slept is 5 hours (lasted 2 days) 🙃
I haven't tried gripe water yet but will get some tomorrow. The Dentinox sometimes works - couple of farts here and there but not enough to stop the discomfort xx

Usually yes, the first portion of the night is ok then come early hours she’d start to get fidgety as if there’s a build up of wind. But at the moment things are particularly bad (I think teething also to blame!)
We cosleep and my daughter has always been a tummy sleeper or she likes being on her side, but at the moment it’s as if when she’s on her side she’s having gripes so ends up rolling on her tummy but then that’s painful because of a build up of wind so she cries. I have to pick her up, pat her back and rock her a little bit before I can put her back down.
This has been happening every 30-60 mins the last week which is obviously very frequent so that’s why I thought teething must be making it worse.
Like you, I’m used to interrupted sleep, she would usually wake 2/3 hourly for boob.
One night she did a 5 hour stretch too!!! Hasn’t happened since 😂
I might try gripe water then, I feel so useless watching her and not being able to help xxx

I thought maybe it was getting worse as her digestive system was sort of maturing? But (and sorry if TMI!!!) her poos are still not formed. I’m not sure if that’s because we breastfeed though!?

sounds almost identical to us. It is reassuring to know it's not just me 😩 I know breastfed babies are typically worse sleepers but I feel bad watching him when he looks in pain. Even when he's co-sleeping with me he cries out and I have to move his legs around to get some wind out. His poos are the same, today they were really thick like glue!! And I could see him visibly straining so his tummy has been bad all day. Is your daughter similar ages? He was born Jan 22nd xx

I have felt so lonely with it because I don’t know anybody else in a similar situation!!
To be honest she’s always been a windy baby. I put it down to maybe stuff I was eating upsetting her tummy but I never noticed a pattern with anything I ate.
Im really hoping this is just a bad phase that passes soon.
She was born 11th Jan so they are close in age.
I really hope it settles soon for you guys, let me know how you get on with gripe water! ❤️❤️

she is 8 months on Monday (9th Jan).
I can’t work out what is upsetting her tummy, I think she is teething quite badly too but it’s so sad seeing her so unsettled. Xx

I'm the same, I've cut out green veg and dairy from my own diet but haven't noticed a difference. I will do!! Hope you have a good night and manage some sleep xx

- my little one refuses to crawl he is a confident roller lol!
I haven’t used anything since he was 3month old, he had a milk allergy and I was told to wean earlier/quicker as he was still being sick continuously until 5months old.
I’m sure he will eventually grow out of it; I hope everything works out for you my lovely xx

I got some gripe water today and he's been farting all night so fingers crossed it's working and tonight he is more settled xx

that’s fab! How often have you given it? X

Only once this evening about 4 as the dose was higher than I thought. 10ml is quite a lot to syringe in at one go! But he's off to bed now and seems to still be getting it out so hopefully this will be good. Worth a shot! Xx

how’s it been going since the gripe water?

We are still struggling. It was a bit better the night before last but last night was every 40 mins or so from about 1am x

We are still struggling as well. His tummy gets really bad about 3am. There's no sleeping in his own bed either he will only sleep with me at the moment!
