Colostrum

I struggled with my first and now! Personally I would say don’t worry too much, you can just feed when they are born and they will get the amount they need.

I struggled for so long before getting some. Was not a fun feeling whatsoever. At 38 weeks is when I started being able to get some out but I still only get .5 ml from session tops

I’m 38+2 and have been trying on and off since 36 weeks… I’ve only managed to produce a single drop so far haha. So disheartening!

I didn’t manage to get anything from the first 3-4 attempts. Have been doing it now for about 2 weeks and usually get not more than .4-.5 ml per day. And only managed to collect something from only one side 🤷‍♀️

Yep, I’m exactly the same! It was really discouraging until a breastfeeding consultant encouraged me that while it’s great to harvest some prenatally, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get any. She said with all her kids she never once saw her colostrum, even though clearly her babies were getting something because they’d take to the breast and have wet nappies.

I’m still gonna keep trying, but I’m not stressing if I don’t get anything. Cheer for the mamas that do produce syringe upon syringe, but give your body grace to do its own thing too x

How long are you trying for? I didn’t realise people were doing it for over 40 mins. Will try again tonight 😢

First day I tried after 3 x 45 minute sessions I only got 0.4ml.
Then I was told a good method is to massage for 10 minutes first. Then press and hold your glands, before slowly rolling toward your nipple. The next day I was able to get 0.5ml per session and as the days have gone on it’s been quicker to get, reducing from 45 minutes to 20 minutes a session.
Keep at it and don’t stress, it’ll come and you’ll figure out what works best for you!
