Advice on feeding

My almost 11 week old has weight has always stayed on or just above 50th percentile. I took her to be weighed yesterday and this time she’s weighing just above 25th percentile. I think she’s a decent eater, she drinks between 4-6oz every feed but the last few days 4oz more than 6. The lady who weighed her has said to add an extra feed at night for a week and see if her weight goes up again. Now I’m paranoid she’s not drinking 5-6oz every feed and thing is if she’s not hungry for that extra night feed, she won’t take it. Any thoughts on how to encourage her to finish her bottles to save adding that extra feed that she will only take between 0-1oz from? She’s formula fed, sleeps well at night with 1 waking and naps 30-40mins a day (tried encouraging longer but doesn’t often work)

My opinion on this is that babies are born at a certain centile and they will either stay at that centile or will change to another whether that is higher or lower than their birth centile and follow that one. My first born was born on the 50th, he went up to the 91st and has stayed there for both his weight and height, he is turning 3 tomorrow.

My June 2024 baby was born on the 98th, he has dropped down to just below the 91st and is now following that line.

I was told by my health visitor that there's so many factors that determine which centile children will settle on such as genetics or if there was anything going on during pregnancy that effected their growth in any way like preclampsia, pregnancy induced hypertension, gestational diabetes etc. So babies then grow differently when they are out of that womb environment.

In my opinion, if I was you I'd continue to feed your baby how she wants to be fed, she's happy and she's sleeping well, plenty of wet and dirty nappies? And I think you'll find...

She will now follow the 25th centile going forward, and that is absolutely fine! I feel there's a lot of pressure about being born on a certain centile and staying there and it's not realistic x

My baby was on 75th when born and is now between 25th and 50th. The health visitor was soooo nice and basically said some HVs start to panic at this point but if baby looks a healthy weight, has good nappies and isn’t constantly hungry there’s no need to worry at all, it’s just baby levelling out on a new percentile. She said if I didn’t take her to get weighed they would never know and doesn’t agree with the whole panic stations straight away!

Thankyou for this..

Yeah plenty of wet and dirty nappies

She’s happy and she’s bright, smiling and interacting.

The lady asked me to go back next week to reweigh her and now I’m worried what she will say if she hasn’t put weight on enough

@Lea I would go back and get her weighed just out of interest but if she remains on the same centile then I think she's found her new normal. I know it's anxiety provoking sometimes when professionals are saying things like this but I always think it's best to focus on your baby, if she's happy and healthy you are doing a great job! X

Thankyou for that, it makes me feel much better. I personally think she looks a nice weight and is bright and smiley. Plenty of wet and dirty nappies.

I think that’s the problem with the health visitors signing you off at 6 weeks as there isn’t the consistency with the 1 person who learns what’s normal for that certain child.

❤️ That means a lot Thankyou! I’m generally a very laid back relaxed mum who doesn’t worry about much but when the professionals say something different then I worry a bit, especially when I think all has been well. She has her 12 week jabs on the 16th so if the lady next week says anything scary I can double check it all at the doctors the week after xx

I wouldn't worry too much, as long as your baby is gaining weight, seems happy and you're feeding her when she wants it , then I see no issue! My baby girl is 15 weeks and was born on the 91st percentile, she then dropped to the 75th, then dropped again to the 50th. So the HV then suggested upping her milk intake (which i was planning to do anyway) so I just increased each bottle by an ounce, however she does always finish it.

Babies are pretty good at regulating how much they need/want to drink. I wouldn’t stress over it too much unless she continues to lose weight or something. 25% is still great. And it sounds like your baby is drinking plenty. I wouldn’t force more milk unless they wanted it.

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Is this normal?

My 12m old is really funny with kids going near him, he’s always been this way, but anytime family’s kids sit next to him or head his way he moans or cries and moves away. He also really observes them and is never really relaxed, always looking over his shoulder. Has anyone experienced this? (He’s starting nursery properly tomorrow so hoping this helps) but is this normal?

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!
