Hi just seeing if anyone has had a flare during early pregnancy?
I got diagnosed in November but I have had this disease for around 2 years but only just recently been able to have a colonoscopy as I had all my 3 kids within 2.5 years so I was pregnant and they wouldn’t ever perform a colonoscopy on me until I had my kids I did carry them all full term no issues but I’ve noticed I am having urgency and Cramps and blood again I am on mesalazine suppository taken one each night but doesn’t seem to be helping it did at the start but I feel like I’m gonna end up in a bad flare 😫 am I at risk of miscarrying ? Does this effect the pregnancy sorry I’m just so confused and very worried right now I’m going to call the IBD nurses tomorrow see what they suggest xx

Hey I’ve had colitis diagnosed about 12 years and had a flare with my son, he’s 4 months old now. If you’re in a flare speak to your Ibd nurse if you’ve got their contact info and your gp, they’ll likely need to put you on something to get it under control. If you wanna ask anything send me a message I’m happy to discuss anything xxx

Yeah I did. It cleared for the second trimester then came back even worse for third trimester in both of my pregnancies. Mesalazine suppositories made me even worse. Was on the toilet every half hour! In the end I needed steroids to help. Your pregnancy will be high risk because of the condition but you will have extra growth scans. I’ve had uc for 17 years, both my pregnancies were fine. I had one natural birth and a planned section xx

Hi I’ve had UC since I was 5 years old and I just had my first child in September and I had such a bad flare at the start and at several other points during pregnancy for a lot of people pregnancy makes it better but for some like us it has the opposite effect. I managed to go to an Ibd pregnancy clinic so I would ask if your hospital or one in your area offers that if you have active colitis you will need to take blood thinning injection from 28 weeks which I didn’t find out until I went to the clinic you may also need iv iron infusion if you have a flare causing anaemia. I was so worried at the start being unwell would affect the baby but she was absolutely fine and born at 38 weeks via c-section but this was only due to her being breach and that I had gestational diabetes xx

aww I’m glad you’re pregnancy went well nothing worse say worrying is they 🤦🏻♀️ im gonna calm my ibd team Tomos and see what the say about it and it’s good to know about the injections as that’s something I wouldn’t of ever though about
I’m in iron tablets now as my last flare I lost so much blood made me very anemic x

I have them contact details and I’m gonna call them tomorrow and see what they suggest for me what a horrible disease to have never had no issues with my bowel until I had my son in 2022 and it all went wrong 🤦🏻♀️ glad your pregnancy went well in the end xxxx

this is what I’m worried about incase it gets even worse 🤦🏻♀️ it’s draining makes me feel so ill and drained hopefully I’ll get some answers tomorrow when I call them xxx

my first pregnancy it made my colitis so much better and this time round I flared really bad, had to take steroids and I also had the blood thinning injections mentioned above! There’s a crohns and colitis group on Facebook not sure if you’re a part of it or not but you can ask questions or even search for previously asked questions I use it a lot when I’ve got something I’m concerned about. Both my pregnancies were considered high risk due to colitis even though I was well during first one. Had growth scans for both and checkups/bloods at hospital (lots more during flare pregnancy) and consultant lead pregnancy rather than midwife. They’ll keep a close eye on you so try not to worry too much xx

I’m already gonna be classed as high risk due to me having 3 c sections and now this being my 4th!
So not good thanks hun I’ll speak with them tomorrow and see what the suggest 🤦🏻♀️ xxxx
