Almost 3 week postpartum and I’m ready to give up on breastfeeding. Midwife said baby girl lost more weight than they will like on day 5 so for every 3 hours feed I have to top it up with 70ml bottle and because she has jaundice they advice breast milk is best to get rid of it. Baby girl is on the breast all of the time cluster feeding, I don’t have time to pump. I pump when I’m feed her which has made one of my boobs bigger than the other, baby won’t feed on it because of the let down. The more I pump for relief the more it comes back fuller. I just want some time to sleep and not be a full time boobs.

Breastfeeding is hard the first six weeks then it get easier .. and then it’s take the boob out give the milk while formula feeding
Preparing the bottle washing the bottle …

Try a haka to just let some of the pressure off instead of pumping and then put her on that breast and pump the other one for a bit

The first few weeks are the hardest, and I can tell you, I had this thought multiple times! I’m week 10 into breastfeeding now and it’s so easy and I honestly love it. Which is crazy to say, because I few weeks ago I would dread every feed! Don’t pump if you don’t need to, bring baby to both breasts if you can. I combi feed, so he has breast all day and then has one formula bottle before bed and that’s when I pump to create a stash for my partner for the days I want to go out or I’m just touched out and need some time without a baby on the boob! You go this 🩷

I remember that stage so well. It’s brutal! It honestly does get better but the first six weeks are so hard. I have a really fast letdown in my right and I’d let him trigger it then pull off and hold a muslin to catch the milk and then put him back on when it slowed down. Didn’t use a haaka myself but wish I had as so much milk came out the other side each feed. If you do want to stick it out, I’d try to embrace it - lots of drinks, snacks and good tv! But either way, it’s your choice and you are doing amazing keeping this tiny little human alive 💗

I breastfed my daughter for 4 weeks and i went right to formula and i don’t regret it at all. She was happier, my mental health was better. I was more present being a mom, and my husband noticed the difference as well. Do what makes you happy mama 🩷

Fed is best! I lasted 1 week with my first, I pumped exclusively for 8 weeks then went onto formula until she weaned onto solids. It was the right choice for us as a family and I felt that I could deal with caring for my newborn much better without worrying about my own breastfeeding schedule as well. Don’t feel guilty for choosing to bottle feed, there is nothing wrong with it at all (in fact I think that it helped my LO sleep through quicker!!)

You've got this momma!!
it'll get better. The first month is the hardest. Maybe let the other caregiver give a bottle or formula so you can sleep a feeding.
My babes was jaundiced and we topped her up with some formula, fed every two to three hours, gave her vitamin D supplement and gave her A LOT of sunlight. We went back and forth to the hospital everyday for two weeks.
