Trying to decide on a mattress here, I was leaning towards getting a dual sided mattress, while my spouse, trying to be cautious about SIDS, is looking at Newton baby.
I understand the logical aspects of the mattress design, the idea of wanting it breathable if baby sleeps on the tummy. The problem i have is around not being able to use waterproof covers as they'll no longer be breathable. Newton has another waterproof breathable cover, which I'm not sure how it works, but sounds contradictory.
If the sheet is not waterproof, it might need us to wash it too often, potentially every time the baby vomits, or has a blow out.
And the time required to air dry it will leave the baby without a mattress. I'm unable to convince myself of this idea and the difficult maintainability, especially for working parents.
Any suggestions on how you maintained the Newton baby mattress, and whether or not you would recommend it, would be welcome.

Following because I’m wondering the same thing

I love the Newton. It gives me peace of mind, which is what I was looking for. Washing the cover every once in a while is a minor issue compared to the benefits. I sometimes use the muslin sheets it comes with / sold at the Newton store.

Ps: I wash the muslin mattress covers with the sand frequency as any other mattress. And the actual Newton cover, which is quite confortable, every once in a blue moon. My baby has never peed on it nor had a sleeping blowout there. Spit and drool mostly but that gets washed with the muslin mattress sheet cover. I rarely worry that much about the mattress cover itself

I have the Newton crib mattress and their waterproof cover. We love it! And when my son used to have accidents, we would wash and dry on delicate cycle and it’s still in top shape- highly recommend! 👍🏼

Your baby will be totally safe and healthy in a regular crib mattress. Personally I think a lot of baby companies pray upon your fear. Keep in mind your baby isn't sleeping on their stomach or face down and if they are...its because they can roll back and forth so it's fine.
, which of the Newton baby variants are sufficient? There's essential, original n waterproof.

I got the waterproof version since my little one would have accidents throughout the night. But I’m sure the other 2 options are great too! I just don’t know too much about them
